[Amazon.ca] Intel i5-9600k $319.99

dnacyan wrote: Amazon has the i5-9600k for $319.99.
Lowest price on CCC (same price as it was on Boxing Day).
Amazon does not show the item as a sale price, but MemEx has it for 339.99 on sale from 359.99.
Newegg has it 319.99 as well but with a $1.99 shipping fee.

For people from QC, buy from Newegg since you only pay 5% tax and not 15%.

Only way I'd consider Intel at this point is if the 2700x isn't fast enough for you and you're willing to spend nearly double on a 9900k (possibly more if you factor in motherboard prices).

FYI Newegg ebay has the 2700x for $374.99 and it comes with a cooler. If you have received the target march10 (10% off) coupon it's actually cheaper than this 9600k once you factor ok the cooler and you get 2 more cores.

Surprised to see no oem heatsink/fan included. Sure many enthusiasts would prefer to use their own.

Canada,Eh!
Does the i5-9600k still suffer from the frame-timing issues highlighted by Gamers Nexus???

I'm mis-reading your post. 2700X is $375 and is slower than the 9600K at $320. Please clarify.
How much faster is intel vs how much more expensive is intel over amd?

The 2700X can be had as cheap as $337.50 with a cooler, whereas the 9600k is $320 without a cooler. Not only is the 9600k more expensive once you add the cooler, it's also slower in most scenarios aside from older games are current AAA titles at 1080p.

Thanks, now I have a better idea. Is the Hyper 212 cooler still about $40? The intel can OC higher with that cooler than the R7 with stock cooler no? Even so, I think the value option is with AMD especially with a cheaper MOBO.

Off topic but my main desktop still on i5-2600K. It's not cut out for 4k youtube content despite the RX480 8gb it's paired with. Still reliable daily used though so I can't complain. That's 7 year old! Nothing has broke.
XFX PSU, Asus MOBO, forgot the name of the SSD maker but it was famous back in the day for making the best CD ROM and CD writer. Starts with a P... Youngin's will not know.

I usually use my own cooler anyway. They seem pretty evenly matched, Intel wins in some games and benchmarks and vice versa depending on whether it's using the stronger single threaded performance of the Intel or more cores of the AMD.

With RAM pricing falling and the premium for fast RAM being only a few bucks more, Ryzen is a better buy overall. Back only a few months ago when RAM pricing was much higher, there was no clear cut value winner, though Ryzen generally squeaked out a victory.

If you can hold on until July for Ryzen 3, that would be ideal. Even if you plan on getting an Intel system, you should wait because Intel will have to drop prices to compete with Ryzen 3.
