[Amazon.ca] Klean Kanteen Sports Cap 3.0 >50% off @$6.16 & 20oz Insulated Water Bottle @$21.88 - Red only

Got one of these Klean Kanteen Sports Cap way back in '15. Works very well & I have not found it to leak. Forgot to unsub from 3C & got a notice of this sale today.

Fits all manners of Klean Kanteen water bottles & even better news, it may also fit other makes as well. I have a cheap Brewberry bottle & this Sports cap fits good. However the Brewberry bottle insulates no where close to as good as the equivalent Klean Kanteen.

Bad news is this sports cap is not so good for coffee or other hot liquids IMO. The Straw cap however, is great for water & hot liquids. Infact it works so well, I use a 20oz Klean Kanteen with the straw cap as a mobile coffee mug after my Zoji mug got destroyed in an offroad EUC wipe. FWIW, I've wiped out lots with the KleanK with nary a scratch, nevermind dents. All carried in either a small daypack or slingbag.

For those with a need/want for a 20oz SS insulated water bottle (& lets be honest, who doesn't), Klean Kanteen has its Red only 20oz for as little as $21.88. Thats a freakin' deal so much so I ordered it as a spare. Can't have too many round the house IMO. The Sea Crest Green is ~$3 more. Other colors are way wayyy more. Link's below
https://www.amazon.ca/Klean-Kanteen-100 ... th=1&psc=1

Edit: FYI these KleanK 20oz fits the water holder on my bikes. Sits somewhat high but doable for that purpose. YMMV ofcos

3.0 out of 5 stars Love the concept...

As long as you keep the water bottle upright you will be VERY pleased with the product. I thought it was a little on the expensive side, but made the Klean Kanteen even more useful. Unfortunately for me, the Leak Resistant part of the description is not overly accurate. Liquid has leaked out of the spout many, many times.
Keep it up right and its solid.

4.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't come with a cover!

I didn't realize until after that this doesn't come with a cap cover. I suppose this is usually bought as a replacement of the actual sport cap and since the cover usually isn't destroyed, that piece doesn't require replacement. But I bought this as a replacement for my twist cap top and I didn't already have the cap cover. So that was a downer as I like to keep my mouthpiece clean.... Regardless, what can I say -- it's a cap, it works, and has the same klean kanteen quality you'd expect.

I recently looked at the Klean Kanteen sports cap cleaning video and the little plastic vent piece looks easy to lose whn cleaning. They recommend using dental floss to thread through the vent piece then somehow. Compare that to the Polar Bottle it uses a 2 piece lid. You squeeze the mouth piece and twist and it comes out for easy cleaning. Also the Klean Kanteen sports cap does not come with a cap cover. Why is that important? Well you don't want to stuff on the mouth piece which can/could make you sick. Case in point, yesterday I went out for a trail hike with my dad and he dropped his Polar Bottle which does not have a cap cover. The cover got covered with dirt because it slipped out of his hand. I had rubbing alcohal on hand so I was able to spray and clean that on the spot but if you were out on a long bike ride or out in the back country or your bottle fell out of your bag, etc and whatever it fell on was contaminated by wild animals you can be in for a rough time if the cap isn't disinfected.

I think I have the Klean Kanteen sport cap 2.0 but not sure. I don't think Klean Kanteen changed the bottle neck/threads on thier bottles as thier sport cap fits all thier bottles. The Klean Kanteen sport cap -WILL- fit the Hydro Flask 24oz (I assume the 21oz as well. I own both but have not used the 21oz. I see no reason why it won't). The Polar Bottle cap -WILL- fit the Hydro Flask 40oz wide mouth and IIRC the Nalgene 1L widemouth as well. They do make a dust cap for the Klean Kanteen sport cap.

I own a lot of water bottles as you can see in my thread ( water-bottle-travel-mug-thread-2285632/?saved ) so if anyone has any questions about mix/matching caps to fit I'd be happy to help.) Also have some more water bottles I've forgotten to list as I have so many.

I love klean kanteen but holy are their caps so time consuming to clean. Specifically the cafe cap.

The specs on the Klean Kanteen 20oz are 11.1" H x 2.9" W / 282.2 mm H x 72.9 mm W

You might want to pair that with this Snow Peak 300 single wall cup to nest under the water bottle. It has a diameter of 2.95" / 74.93mm . You could snug it up with a rubber band near the bottom of the water bottle before nesting the cup so it is a snug fit. Give you the best combo as if you want to do do drink mixes you can do that in the cup and avoid more frequent cleanings in the bottle. Also when the water fountians are turned back on and active in the parks and such the cup aids in topping up or filling the bottle. Lastly it protects the bottle of your bottle. :)

After nearly swallowing what looked like mould from my sport cap I religiously put the cap in the dishwasher on a daily basis now. I don't think Dawn soap + sport cap are a good combo. I think the soap builds up in the nooks and crannies of the cap.

What's the biggest insulated bottle that'll fit in a bicycle water bottle holder? Is metal the best choice, might get dented/deformed won't stand up after some abuse (also extra weight in a backpack)?

Largest? 64oz with a oversized water bottle holder.

Add a water bottle lid tube adaptor that works with many water bottle lids. That way if you bike with drop bars you can hold in aero and maybe velcro or zip tie the hydration tube to the handle bars so when you're in the drops you can still take in liquids while training hard. If you use a water bladderthen you'll love the rapid fill adaptor so you don't have to take your water bladder out and refill your pack.

EDIT:

Forgot to reply to the bottle type. Single wall stainless steel bottles would be ideal as they can take a beating and keep on going. Klean Kanteen's single wall (wide mouth AFAIK) are so bombproof rock solid they can handle the stresses of being thrown repeatedly into a raging camp fire if you need to boil water in the bottle. Now the vacuum insulated bottled are great as well however it would be a good idea to put a bumper guard (bottle boot) or silicone bottle sleeve in case the bottle takes a spill that it can handle the beatings. If it takes a hard enough hit the vacuum seal could be broken then the bottle will no longer keep it's thermal properties anymore.

How to test if your vacuum insulated bottle has a broken vacuum is simple, boil up some hot water then pour that hot water into the bottle and wait 5mins then touch the bottle. If the bottle is warm/hot on the outside then the vacuum seal is broken. If the vacuum seal is broken it does not mean you can't still use the bottle. It just means the bottle is pretty much a single wall bottle now. I have found Hydroflask's vacuum insulated bottles to be so far the most durable before you add on any add-on protection covers. Dropped the 24oz at waist level and didn't break the vaccum. Still works like a champ. Can't say the same for other thermo bottles (Thermos I'm looking at you).

You pay more for Hydroflask but they have a lifetime warranty. I think Klean Kanteen has a lifetime warranty as well.

You should always wash your cap after every use for sure, but you should always take it apart to truly clean the cap. Submerging isn't enough. If all you drink is water then you can space the deep cleans apart. Something like milk or cream you should wash religiously

I really wished Klean Kanteen and Hydroflask would come out with a titanium insulated model to save on the weight.

I meant with coffee. Yea you have to take that all apart. It's like 4 pieces. Otherwise you'll get bacteria/curds hidden in the joints

Yup. It's a defining feature of this cap. People call it bird sounds.

Here are some pics of different bike bottle mounts for those going on treks or day trips needing to carry more H2O.

No
You need to reseat the valve.

Out of 6 caps only one did, I reseated the valve as per cleaning video

No more noise
