Its clear, you can see inside it. There seems to be no mechanism. It works by putting your hand off-axis from the driving point. You need to hold the shaft of the screw driver with your other hand, and then spin the other hand thats holding the handle around it.
I dont think many people would have a use for this outside of professional work(or hobby woodworking). If you do need it though, $8 for a specialty screw drive from Klein seems like a great deal. For everyone else, a drill set to the right settings would be more practical.

I bought one of these 3 years ago from Amazon the first time it dropped to $20 thinking it was a steal at that price. I use it exclusively for electrical switch plates and electrical junction boxes. I've sold a lot of people on them after they see it in action. For $8, it's a no-brainer if you do electrical work, and I think I'll pick up a spare.

Why is it better than a conventional Screwdriver?
I'm just a DIYer... and never imagined a tool like that.

Speed is the typical use case; more specifically, speed in applications where using a powered tool like a drill or driver isn't desired or won't reach/fit.

The use cases are admittedly pretty limited and specialized for most home users, but there's a variety of industries where power drivers can't be used in certain applications and drivers like this designed for speed are king. I've used similar ones working on parts of airplanes, for example.

Hoping normal 1/4" bits will work in it rather than the double ended one supplied.

Although regular 1/4" bits will fit, there is no magnet to hold them there and it's not a tight friction fit. The double ended one supplied has a little bearing (detent?) in the middle to hold it there.

But the good thing is that I've never needed to replace it from wear. Although a #2 Robertson bit would be handy at times such as this:

It's a convenience and speed thing. If you've only got a few outlets to deal with, it's probably not worth it. I just bought a 2nd one to put with my painting kit, as I don't always have my electrical kit handy when I'm out doing work.
