I never understood the point of these lamps, the monitor it's attached to already outputs enough light

For people including me prefer to work in a dark environment, this lamp gives some ambient light to help prevent eye strain.

Does it add glare to the screen?

No, they're angled so the light cast just misses the screen. If you need a lamp on your desk, you'll know it, and if you're that person, this is a great solution. If you dont(which i bet a lot of people dont, since they're not working with papers while on their computer) than it has minimal use beyond relieving eye strain if you work in pitch black conditions.
To me, it seems more like the kind of thing you buy to show off your computer setup, than you'd actually use regularly, for most of the people who are buying it.

I paid over 100$ for the BenQ Screenbar a few years ago. There is no more light directly to my eyes, no more glare on the screen, totally worth it.

Your monitor shouldn't be the main source of light, you want ambient light because the monitor isn't a constant light with the content changing. You want some ambient light so your eyes are not constantly adjusting itself to what's on the screen.

Also, a light on the monitor is useful if you use your desk for other things. I don't have to turn on my main room light.

I like these lights because it basically acts like a desk lamp but takes up no room on the desk and they are designed not to shine into your eyes or the monitor.

Both should be close to 300,000,000 m/s?

Is there any significant advantage to the BenQ over other cheaper light bars?

I like the look of the BenQ. Just wondering if this functionality worth the price difference.

Where do they sell the xiaomi version?

I think the BenQ one is brighter and have better light distribution. Xiaomi has a wireless control knob which is clean. I got mine on AliExpress for around $60 with shipping. Works pretty well so far. Took roughly 4 weeks to deliver. I didn't know BenQ can be had for $100, I thought it's $200+ that's why I went with Xiaomi. Really satisfied

Thanks! I just did a quick look myself and wireless remote does seem more appealing for my new setup. Going to place an order through AliExpress. Thanks again!

I got it at 129$ at Staples + some coupon 3 years ago if I remember. I didn't know any other brand at the time.

what's better for preventing eyestrain: this, or having a light placed behind the monitor?

I saw this and decided to make an account to discuss my experience. First, this design looks exactly like the Quntis monitor lamp. If it is the same product, but rebranded, it is not good from my experience. The cable is so thin that mine started to tear near the inline remote, and as well it turns off randomly. Also depending on your monitor setup, the monitor light does not fully point down towards your desk, hence you get a little stream of light reflected towards your face. To mitigate this I had to stack some 3M double sided tape underneath it to tilt it to get a comfortable angle that did not reflect light into my eyes. Overall quality is not great, but it does the job at lighting your desk (at least for the year I had it), though I would treat it with care as it seem fragile. Since then I have invested into the Yeelight screenbar which is similar to the Xiaomi one which people have been talking about here. Definitely worth the extra money as it built sturdier, brighter, and the controls (which are in the knob) are easier to access.

I have the XiaoMi version of this and love it. Use it on the dimmest and warmest colour setting all the time. Provides light to your work area without adding glare and improves productivity by reducing eye strain.

The Xiaomi one looks like a good value for the price. I have the BenQ ScreenBar Plus and I bought it at the time because the other ones were garbage, but the Xiaomi one looks very good for a much cheaper price. I'll probably order the Xiaomi one for a second monitor instead of paying $160 for the BenQ one.

The important thing about these is that they have a light pattern which cuts off so that light isn't shining on the screen. You want to illuminate the space in FRONT of the monitor.
