[Amazon.ca] Kreg K5 Pocket-Hole Jig

Hi all,

I've been waiting for a deal on the K5 jig for awhile, and it finally happened. I have no idea how long this will last, but Amazon.ca currently has the Kreg K5 on sale for $129.99. The MSRP is usually $189.99, although Amazon normally carries it for $179.99.

For all you aspiring furniture markers, go buy it now! :)

Edit: Deal appears to be dead. Kreg K4 and K4MS still appear to be on sale for those who missed out.

Pocket holes are amazing, especially if you're working with melamine, but in general, amazing.
Also, you don't need to buy the kreg screws, some other screws will do the job.

Edit: Also, lowest price ever according to CCC

The K5 "should" offer better stability when drilling into larger pieces because it has the "support wings". Also, the K5 uses a ratcheting clamp, which makes it less tedious to adjust if you're drilling into pieces with different thickness. Not having to make constant adjustments during a build is worth the $30 premium for me.

Thanks OP, I'm just getting into woodworking and the Kreg R3 is on sale for $33.99 which seems like an all-time low from CCC. https://www.amazon.ca/Kreg-R3-Pocket-Ho ... B000J43A7W

Wondering if anyone has comments on this set?

Edit: Also, I've been using dowels for end-grain joints and it's been working fairly well (employing dowel centers to get it to line up). Is it reasonable to stick with dowels instead of adopting a new jig system for one-off projects?

I have been using the K3 for years. It’s excellent. My only complaint is that I have used it so much that I had the K4 or K5, since it would definitely by justified. With the K3 I’m always fumbling around with a clamp. It’s a bit tedious to always use a clamp and it slow me down. Wish I had an integrated one so I could move through joints more quickly.

I have it - super useful and portable. Don’t use it often, but a lifesaver when I do. Looking forward to stepping up to a K5 which I would expect will be less fiddly for bigger tasks.

Yeah, my thoughts on what was a "Pocket-Hole Jig" seemed better. ;)

Something along the lines of this slightly modified post:
