Oh definitely agree, but it paid for itself the first time I got an engine code and could fix it myself vs going to a mechanic for a simple sensor failure.
I'd rather be outdoors camping, kayaking, and mountain biking ...

I recommend an OBDLink MX, which is about 10X more the cost, but works very well and reliable.
I've used it to access module programming on my Ford Explorer and have been able to to activate and disable many different features.

Sometimes this JDiag Faslink M2 goes on sale for $35.

I also have the cheaper BT ELM327 $10 readers from eBay, but it doesn’t read ABS codes which sometimes comes in handy. I had to replace the ABS speed sensor cable (and wheelhub while I was at it), and the M2 told me which side the problem was on. That is well worth the extra cost in some cases.

I have found it to be a good alternative to VAG-COM depending on how deep you need to go, and how much existing support is available for your platform.

I've never had an issue buying them from places like tmart, banggood or ********, and they're pretty good about refunding if there's issues.

Eh.. what? Ebay units come with Torque Pro APK? If that's what you want you can download and sideload the APK at any time.

You're vehicles don't "detect" the unit at all. Never had trouble with the unit I have. They "detect"(read) the car just fine. And no problems connecting to phone's BT.
I use it for monitoring sensors and reading/clearing faults mostly. If I need to program modules or something more I have the factory software with a USB OBDII connector (which isn't convenient to use when you're actually driving or to leave plugged in all of the time).
Thanks for sharing the app links for Torque (Android)... too bad there's nothing available on iOS, I was thinking about buying one for the folks, but they only have Apple devices
