serious question...what do all the differentiators mean? i.e. M, K, MK, etc

which ones are better?

i get kind of crappy range out of my old Logitech key/mouse so im trying to find one that has good reliable range to work far away from my 55" screen

If you’re just looking for a basic reliable mouse, then there are $20-30 Logitech’s that will do you fine. No need to worry about naming schemes, as they often don’t have much logic.

For long distance, I would suggest to avoid Bluetooth mouses. These Logitech’s with the “unifying USB receicer” is what you should look for.

If you’re going to use the mouse on any unusual surfaces (something that’s not a mousepad, like a couch) then stick to “optical” mouses rather than ones that are “laser” sensored. Optical has more reliable performance on more surfaces. Laser is more expensive because of marketing, but it may also be a bit smoother on optimal surfaces like a mousepad.

I use an M325 that I got for $20 on sale and it works wonderfully at 8-10ft away from PC, used on my couch, my thighs, literally any surface I’ve put it on (yes, it’s optical).

I love the MX Anywhere mouse but they keep crapping out on me with the single-click = double-click issue. In for 1 of these... hopefully it doesn't develop same issue.

Thanks OP!

If you know how to solder just replace the mouse switch with something more reliable like a kailh gm8.0

Jeez wallet possibly not safe. Arg.

Checks all the boxes...

M325 my go to. Also have the weird shaped silent mouse and the m557 but silent plus Bluetooth plus side scroll is interesting.

Vote up nonetheless.

I have the MK850 mouse keyboard combo. Few things I like is being able to sync multiple devices to the mouse and or keyboard. I like customizing the side keys, to many different functions. Ive set it up to copy and paste within excel, forward and back in browser, volume and track control when holding function. Its great.

Depends on what you mean by "Basic"

If you use the Internet at all,

NO ONE should be moving the mouse cursor all the way to the top left corner of the browser when mice today have back/forward side buttons.

NO ONE should be moving the mouse cursor all the way to the right side of the window when mice today have scroll wheels

Mice with 90's era layout should die with grandma and go inside her grave.

I'm used to "hot deals" on Logitech mice around $5.99-$9.99 range. Can we go back to deals era? Now it's 60 bucks and people get excited.

Gotta love the advertising "ENJOY THE SOUND OF SILENCE With the same click feel and over 90% noise reduction on the click sound, M590 delivers a quiet experience for you and your neighbors."

Yea, like my neighbors were really annoyed by the sounds of my constant mouse clicking Face With Stuck-out Tongue And Tightly-closed Eyes

There's literally one yesterday and still active, so I'm not sure what your point is.

Some of us can afford a 50$ mouse but want a 70$ one
Some of us can afford a 10$ mouse but want a 20$ one

BUT Sorry you're unlikely to get a 70$ for 10$

You get what you pay for

…okay? Good thing the M325 I recommended has a scroll wheel, and a back/forward button in the wheel, so it addresses those things you listed… and it is considered a “basic” Logitech mouse, in so far as there are other Logitech mice that sell for over 5x the price.

That works too.

That's why I said, "It depends on what you mean by basic" Some ppl think a basic mouse just needs 2 buttons PERIOD.

Drawback I found with using the scroll wheel's side2side Tilt button is that you often accidentally scroll while pushing on the scroll wheel side/side button, decreasing your control precision.

That's why I never assign the Scroll wheel Tilt button to ANYTHING and instead use the thumb forward/backward buttons as intended (they're assigned by default as Forward/Backwards No need to install Logitech Software)

There are replaceable switches but most/all Logitech switches needs to be de soldered, it's not that difficult, the best part is I've never had them double click with the kailh.

Btw Asus ROG mice have hot swappable switches.

M: Mouse only
K: Keyboard only
MK: mouse & keyboard combo

So it really gets down to the numbers

This has only worked for 1 or 2 mice out of the 10-12 Logitech mice that have failed for me throughout the years but was ecstatic when it did work. The problem really is their switches, this is the main reason I refrain from buying a Master mouse because I know it will fail me eventually. If you stick to the 20-40 dollar price range, won't hurt the wallet so much everytime the switch craps out. On the other hand, I do have a couple of Logitech gaming mice and those have been strong throughout the years, better switches on those for sure.

Agreed. Insane. Would not spend more than $20 on a mouse.
