Blu-ray.com review states yes it has HDR/HDR10/DV.

However many Amazon reviews state if you buy it in Canada the digital codes are, unbelievably, only good for SD versions of the movie. Not 1080p but SD! LOL. Def. don't buy if you want those. Perhaps with a VPN can activate as if you're an American though?

I saw that, I usually don't bother with digital versions but SD is pretty sad lol

I also just remembered PS5 doesn't support dolby vision so the digital version might actually be more important in this case....

I can wait for this to drop further in price....

Thanks I have been watching this for awhile now. Was going to buy at $90.
Transfer is good but not the best. Too much digital noise reduction etc.

If I had the Blu-ray I would not bother but I only have the DVD version.
Only mildly interested in the digital copy as I'm hoping it will be available on Prime at a later date otherwise I will just be playing it in the player.

Squirrel99 wrote: Yes, but DV is better
It would be extremely...extremely unlikely for anyone (even a bird or cat with far sharper-than-human eyes) to take a look at a snippet of say 30s or so, one in DV and one in HDR10, and be able to tell the difference. There's also many tests showing DV barely does anything different than "regular" HDR in real world examples and frame-by-frame comparisons. DV is just a brand name. Those that buy Samsung TVs will never have DV yet they will still think their TVs are bestest evar (even if they have a shitty model) lol. Even considering reviews of top TVs by reputable review sources, I've never heard any of them say "don't buy Samsung" or "Samsung is well below the competition"...because of not having DV.

What one would easily tell the difference between, even if they were 90 year old grandma, is the difference between a 4K version and an SD one lol. So I think it's far less a worry that you're seeing something in HDR10 instead of DV, in this case.

Personally I don't even really like HDR in general, but that's just me. I don't even see what the big deal is. There's a big difference in things like seeing an IPS TV v. a VA one, enough difference between an LCD with FALD and one without, a huge difference between SD content and HD content. But many other things are much less of a concern. Even on a 4K screen, at a distance 1080p content doesn't really look that much different compared to 4K, for example.

Worrying about HDR10 v. DV is very meaningless when it comes to all the other things you could worry about. Say for example the low bitrates of streaming services compared to disc. Because with lower bitrates artifacts are noticeable if you look carefully. The vast majority of people don't care about that because the vast majority of viewing is now done through streaming services and apps.

I can still notice the difference between streaming and disc, but I do have to look carefully or have it highlighted in certain types of scenes with certain content. But DV v. regular HDR? I'm not even going to pretend I'd ever notice a difference between the two.

What is the known problem with UHD? The blu-ray have a horrible green tinge for the fellowship of the ring which the UHD fixes.

DNR and oversharpening. I watched the trilogy and the issues are overstated however. It is typically noticeable on zoomed in face shots. While it's not the perfect release that many had hoped for, it's still the best way of watching the movies. HDR and Atmos make this an easy upgrade for fans.

Anyone remember the Future Shop deal in 2010 when the theatrical edition was ~$18? Good times.

The extended ones were like $30 too at one point. They came in those bigger book-like cases. My sister had (and still has) all of them. You could also get the same with the figure/statue, but I think those ran $80-100. Wonder if they are worth anything now, the statue sets?

The codes can be redeemed directly into a Movies Anywhere (without a VPN) or Vudu (with VPN) account to get the movies in 4k DV. The movies will port to all connected retailers including a USA iTunes account and a Canadian GP account. I redeemed my code to Vudu and the movies ported in 4k DV to my USA iTunes account.

If the Canada Warner site is used to redeem the code, the codes will only redeem to a GP Canada account in HD and not port.
