[Amazon.ca] Lumintop FW3A Flashlight with free keychain light. 42.99 ($20 off) all-in

At the risk of getting a bunch of "I can buy a 2000 lumen flashlight at Dollarama for $5" posts, I'm going to post a deal about an "enthusiast" flashlight called Lumintop FW3A.

The deal is: $20 off the price of ones of these: (regular $62.99 - $20.00) coupon (shows up in final checkout)

Also note: no taxes are charged on checkout, so price is all-in

The unprotected flat top 18650 genuine Samsung cell is INCLUDED but you have to supply a charger.

If you add this to your cart, https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07YZ12799/ref ... ANPW02FVGU you get it to free (in final cart)

edit: also add the coupon for $5 and get off the total order making it $37.99!!!
edit 2: extra $5 off coupon is now GONE, so $42.99 all in.
Edit 3: Free flashlight bonus doesn't work anymore

It's supposed to be worth $20, but it's a nice little bonus as you are getting the FW3A at a good price already.

So what's so special about this FW3A? Long story short, it's a flashlight designed by a bunch of flashlight hobbyists. Namely budgetlightforum. It has a crazy number of features, and everything is highly customizable in terms of modes due to its customized (open source) firmware.

Downsides of this flashlight:

It may take a while to understand how to use all the features, but mostly you can ignore most of the features and it works fine if you just want to use it as a basic flashlight: click on and off, and hold to ramp up and down.

In full turbo mode, it gets so hot that it could literally start a fire, so it's no toy. You should only activate full brightness for short periods of time, it ramps down in brightness to preserve the battery and temperature quickly, because a little flashlight like this has no way of dissipating the heat from its 3 LEDs.

Lastly, this comes with various LEDs from Neutral white and Nichia LED, but this amazon listing only has 6500k cool white (around 70 CRI). I don't mind cool tints but I'm sure tint zealots will chime in and rag on it. If you want to order the other variants (LEDs, different colors, titanium body etc, you can go to the official Lumintop Store on Aliexpress.

Doesn't come with a charger, you supply your own.

The other thing is that the electronic switch is very easy to activate, so be careful you don't set your pants on fire if you pocket carry this. You can activate a lockout mode if you are worried about it.

Reviews: Since this is a highly popular light, reviews are everywhere. Here's a sample

(Extra $5 is GONE, so you will get it for $42.99)

Wow never thought I'd see the FW3A on Amazon, nevermind Amazon Canada, would definitely have preferred NW but for this price CW is more than fine. Plus it coming with the battery is clutch.

It came to $37.99 for me.

Looks like the keychain flashlight has a $5 coupon you can also clip that stacks which drops the price to $37.99 for both. Worked for me anyway.

If the Amazon listing was for the Nichia 219 version, I would be in. Unfortunately, I just can't do low CRI flashlights anymore

Fantastic deal, esp with the additional coupon on the small flashlight from stvns. Thank you!

Good price, but 6500K low CRI kills the deal. Defeats the point of getting one of these.

Thanks OP, now I'm down $38. /sarcasm

It is a pretty hot deal with the included 18650 cell & keychain light. The 219C/SST20 version is $58 CAD on banggood, no battery, no free keychain light, +shipping. Now I gotta find a cheap triple-219C/SST20/LD351D PCB to swap in. I've been on the high-CRI/Nichia bandwagon for a few years now and this looks like an easy 2 wire solder job.

You need to buy a separate charger that can handle these types of Lithium Cells.

It's a good idea to buy a universal charger like this: https://www.amazon.ca/18650-Charger-XTA ... 820&sr=8-5
It can handle your regular NiMH AA/AAA like Eneloops as well as all the different types of Lithium Cells.

If you just want a single cell charger, this would work too https://www.amazon.ca/Olight%C2%AE-Univ ... s9dHJ1ZQ==

The fw3e says it can be charged without a separate charger is this one also a good flashlight?

AS2012 wrote: Does it have PWM?
Yes it does, but it's not detectable at all. There are certain levels where there is no PWM. It uses a very high frequency PWM (15.6 Khz), and secondly it is not an on/off flicking, it alternates between and high and low in some cases, (rather than hi and off) states

See the measurements here. https://budgetlightforum.com/node/65619

When I got mine, I didn't even think it used PWM at all but I only found out it used PWM because somebody posted about it.

The FW3E is a variant....basically the difference is that it uses a special cell that you can charge with a USB plug. This cell is longer than the FW3A cell and is a proprietary cell. Also, the flashlight body is a wee bit longer and it can only take this special cell. So if the cell dies, you probably need to find the same cell. The FW3A takes a standard cell, and you can buy different brands (called "unprotected flat-top 18650")

But otherwise, it's basically the same flashlight. Both are going to work the same except for the cell. So pick what works best for you.

Went for the EDC18 after doing some comparisons, same deal as far as coupons and savings. Searching for 18650 battery on Amazon at this time seems to be a hopeless cause although last time I checked for them thinking of rebuilding a battery pack it was no problem. Where are you sourcing your unprotected flat-top 18650 now ?
