[Amazon.ca] Meross smart wifi light switches -$24 for 2

Pack of 2 light switches (not dimmers) for $24 and meross garage opener has been serving me well and works with SmartThings as well so hoping their light switches work just as well.

damn, that's a great price for wifi-enabled switches.

I installed two of these (homekit version, this one isn't) and a few things to note:

  1. requires neutral wire
  2. build quality is not the best (need to hit the switch bang on otherwise, it will click but not register)
  3. if there's any resistance from the wires behind, it can warp the plastic casing causing it to rub against the switch and "creak" when pressed. I had to grease the edge of my switch to get rid of the creak.
  4. the case is rather large so be aware of that
  5. can set the lightswitch circle icon to glow for easy night time visibility (done via app)
  6. there is a homekit compatible version but it's a little more at $40/2pack which is still pretty damn good.
  7. it's a bit annoying to see the switch look like it's always "on" with the way it sticks out at the bottom. muscle memory for me is to "turn it off" as i leave the room which invariably turns on the light and is the opposite of what I wanted.
  8. these are wifi 2.4ghz enabled which has pros and cons. make sure your wireless router is capable enough to handle all the additional clients if you install this throughout your home.

tldr: great price for a very functional switch as long as you can get over some potential build quality issues and quirks.

How does this one compare to Kasa smart light switch by TP Link?

I have both, I prefer Kasa for the design and mobile app.
Maybe, for an ios user, meross is homekit enable, not that I personnaly care since I am using HomeAssistant and Kasa works with it but it could be a pros
The only reasons I bought meross was for the 3way switch that was way cheaper but for the rest, prefer Kasa.

I see it listed in SmartThings app so should be, I know the garage opener works flawlessly with the SmartThings app.

I see switches/dimmer listed under Meross in SmartThings app so should work.

I have 3 of these, great switches. App is very basic. I prefer Kasa because of the away mode.

Just remember Meross have specific Homekit versions.. (more expensive), make sure you get the right ones!

I have one of these switches they sent me for free. Compared to my TP- Link switches, these do not compare. Build quality is not as good, app features are verrrry basic. My switch often trips if I don’t flip the physical switch fast enough.

For the price I’m sure it’ll work, but there is a noticeable quality difference for the extra few bucks

IMO, the Feit 3-pole compatible smart switch/dimmer (3 pack for $37) are good value and have been using them with Tuya integrated with home assistant

I have a few of these Meross switches (including 3 way one's) and they work great. Works with Smart things and with Alexa. Really good price for 2. The CE smart dimmer at Costco are better, but Costco only sold single pole ones. I have heard mixed things about Feit.

The Costco ones?

They’re not Tasmota friendly.

Maybe you misunderstood my original comment. Tuya Convert is used to remove the Tuya firmware and replace it with Tasmota firmware. It uses an exploit that allows you to replace the firmware over the air. No soldering required.

dumb question

say you physically switch the button to "on".. and then you use google home to switch it on.. Does this mean your physical button's on and off is now swapped?

It is not a paddle switch. All smart switches are toggle switches.

The switch is always in the same position. It looks the sane on or off. The only way to tell if the switch is off is by the LED
