10 miles range is more like a wish than a reality .Seems to be mostly reviewed as a kid's toy ?

Most walkie talkies can't reach the range that they claim, but these should be good for going to the mall or camping or kids christmas gift...

As with any walkie talkies, for direct line of sight usage, you take their range and divide by 10.
For normal outdoor usage, you take divide by 20.
For indoor usage, divide by 30

That should give you a good sense of what the ranges you will get. (It will be better or worse depending on the walkie talkie as well as your environment.

ideally what I want is a radio like this that takes 4 or 6 AA NiMH batteries

Any recommendations - I am looking for a pair of walkie talkie to use in Disney park or a cruise ship?

Haven't heard the term "Walkie Talkie" since I was about 10 years old. What year are we in now?
