[Amazon.ca] MSI Radeon RX6600 8GB video card $489.99

This is the first "good" video card under $500 I have seen in years. (I'm not counting cards like the RX6500 and the GTX 1650 which are mediocre cards by today's standards).

Also at Vuugo for $498: https://www.vuugo.com/msi-video-cards-R ... 8053939762

Why do they keep dropping recently? Over supply?

Many reasons. Ethereum mining with GPUs will become less attractive after The Merge. Imminent release of Intel Arc GPUs (mobile devices might be announced March 30). People waiting for Nvidia 4xxx series. Demand slowly being sated.

Can we get back to the days where the best consumer card was $999 CAN? Hope we can go back to the GTX 1080 Ti days at some point.

I remember when we had to drive through 10ft of snow to get to the local Future Shop and stand in line at 4AM in -40 weather to get the top of the line video card for under $400.

GPU Eth mining will become non-existent, and as it stands there doesn't appear to be anything waiting in the wings that'll provide even 50% of eth profit rates. On top of that.... eth difficulty has gone up significantly over the last few months and thus monthly profits have already been slashed by 40% (Although it does appear to be going up over the last few days along with higher eth values).

Pretty hard to justify buying a new card to mine on when ROI is over 1 yr, and mid-summer prospects are looking bleak.

Tinge faster than a 5700, five hundred bunkaroos. Still way too much. When I bought a 5700 for a bit over $400 a couple years ago I thought that was insane (and TBH I probably had no real reason to buy one anyway as I think I'm done with gaming now)... On the plus side prices are coming back down it seems and this does also use like 50W less than a 5700...

Ethereum is going to do an upgrade called "The Merge" which will start the transition to proof of stake, which will severely reduce the amount of mining rewards. So with that being said, the large mining operations that were buying all the cards directly from the manufacturers have stopped ordering, allowing cards to show back up on retailer shelves. https://ethereum.org/en/upgrades/merge/

Unfortunately for gamers though crypto started pumping again today, so supply might start getting gobbled up again.

Dead cat bounce or pump and dump or buy the dip; what we will see are short bear rallies fueled by the sheep. With the Federal Reserve's
interest rate hikes, crypto glory days are behind it.

Good card, better price.

The world makes sense folks, trust me.

Only in a high inflation environment with war disrupting semi-conductor neon supply will GPU prices fall.

Because the world makes sense.

God bless.

All the comments about the ETH merge, the irony is that the RX 6600 is one of the most efficient mining GPUs available today.

Merge aside, price needs to come down a little more.
