Price match with Home Depot and use the 75$ Enbridge discount and you are onto something. I went with Sensi because I didn't want to deal with putting in a C-Wire to my system.

Stupid question...

Does anyone know if the thermostat info is shared with your gas provider?
I'm wondering if this makes their lives easier into "accessing" your data.

Just like how they send you the usage per home, will they look further into your home by seeing the individual temps?

If your existing cabling does not have the C (common) wire, AVOID NEST THERMOSTATS!

Your gas consumption is all the information your gas provider needs - they can extrapolate all the other information using a model.

I also went with the Sensi after trying a nest and having it tell me I didn't have the right wires. The Sensi doesn't look as sexy but the wifi control works great. Use it all the time to turn the fan on/off or raise/lower the temp from bed. Paid $38 after Enbridge money.

I currently don't have a C wire connected to my existing thermostat. The thermostat only controls my AC. I do have an extra wire in the wall though. Could this be my C wire? How do I check? I know people say look at the other side but I have no idea where the wires go...

Nest thermostats require a google account, but only if you choose to use the app to control it remotely. You can just not setup the wifi portion. Even if you do set it up through google, are you suggesting that google shares this data with my local gas company? The gas usage reports you receive with your bill comes from a remotely accessible meter on the outside of your home and is entirely independent of what thermostat you use. There may be some thermostats provided BY your provider that they own and control for restricting your use during energy restrictive period, but you need to sign over the right for them to install these and control them.

The nest LEARNING thermostat works without a C wire through power stealing. The nest thermostat does not.

The price didn't change, Amazon's listing is gone. The $148 is a third party seller.

The enbridge rebate is only for a specific income correct? I’m not 100% if I would qualify.
