[Amazon.ca] New Fire Stick $34.99 (Lite and 4K on sale also)

The new Fire Stick is on sale now. The 4K was on sale on Prime Day and at other retailers, but the non-4K version is a good option for those without 4K TVs.

Lite and 4K are also on sale...

GTA
4k is $44.99
Lite is $29.99
Cube is on for $99.99 which is also on sale. The cube has the best processor out of all of them. It basically has an Alexa built into it as well (I understand don't need to hit the remote button to get it to respond).

to save people the click

Decent price, I actually almost bought a replacement remote for my 4K stick for around this price so this is great

Ordered the 4K. I missed out on the Prime Day Sale.

Now I don't have to go into Visions tomorrow.

Visions sometimes gives you a $5 discount if you select in store pickup during checkout.

Looks like they upgraded the fire stick to 3rd gen for 2020.

https://developer.amazon.com/docs/fire- ... tions.html

Faster processor, Dolby Atmos support, VP8 and VP9 support.

Firestick lite is missing Dolby Atmos support and only offers passthrough for DD, DD+, DTS. No volume control on the remote either. Same processor as the 3rd gen firestick.

Firestick 4k(2018) has Dolby Vision and 4k support over the 3rd gen firestick(2020). Similar processor?

Cube worth it? My Firestick 4K keeps overheating (I get an actual message on screen the stick is overheating). when I play 4K content.

I have the new Bell Streamer I could use but i like and embedded in the Amazon ecosystem.

I imagine you can still do Kodi etc? That's all I want it for tbh since I can't get another gpu to connect to my old pc since 3080s are on a mass shortage.

No i was not living under the rock.

Only selected Prime numbers were eligible to use the discount code in there accounts and get it for $5 ... all other Prime members had to pay $29.99USD on Prime Day.

People who live under the rock don’t read full details of the promotion, nor they ordered one for $5, but they do know to crop the picture and misguide ppl on public platforms

What exactly does this do? Is it similar to the Google Chromecast where it will turn my non smart TV into a smart TV? Will it allow me to watch Netflix, YouTube and NFL Redzone (from the TSN app) on my non-smart TV?

Do I need Alexa and Amazon Prime for this to work?

Will this work in conjunction with my Shaw PVR?

Should I get the 4K version if I don't have a 4K TV?

Yup, just have to side load it and do any updates to Kodi manually (although apps within Kodi can still auto update if you choose).

This and the new Chromecast with Google TV are in the same category of making your TV smart - the 4k and Chromecast are about as powerful, with testing showing Chromecast has an 8% ish advantage (nothing significant). The firestick has both Netflix and YouTube, but I can't verify the TSN app as I'm not a sports person and just haven't looked (but I assume it would).

You don't need Alexa or Amazon Prime. Depending on the version of firestick, it comes with Alexa built in but you never need to use it. Prime would just allow you access to Prime Video. You can still use any of the above apps, as well as many others, without Prime.

I almost always recommend the 4k, as it is noticeably faster than the non-4k of the past. Not sure how it compares to these new versions, though.

Thank you. I just did some research and looks like TSN app is not supported in the Fire Stick. But apparently you can access the TSN website using the Fire browser Silk? Has anyone had success using Silk in the Fire Stick?

And another question: is the Shaw app supported through Fire Stick? That's another way I could possibly access NFL RedZone.

If starting new I'd recommend the new chromecast with google tv. It's a bit better in almost every way.
