[Amazon.ca] New Kindle - Priced the same as US Amazon

Hey everyone,

Amazon just announced their new 2016 entry level kindles and currently they are retailing for both $80 on the CDN and USD site. I'm sure this is just an error they will fix shortly but for now its a great way to save given our crazy conversion rate.

That's exactly my thinking.

Love my paperwhite, don't see any new updates or reasons to change.

Is it worth it even if it does not have the built in lights?

I still havnt found a reason to replace my Kindle 3(keyboard) or Sony prs-500. Yeah, the new screens are more crisp, and the backlighting is convenient, but it's still replacing something that had low quality print and no light source(traditional books) so its not like I need those extra attributes. Also seems like the 2 I own(about 10 years old on the prs500) are negligibly different from the sub-$100 dollar ones sold today. Black levels seem to be the only difference.

$99.99 on the US site.
$79.99 on the CDN site + free shipping...

I won't be replacing my Kindle Touch as I can live without the back light.

Sticking with my Kindle 3 - I tried a paperwhite and I really don't like to 'touch the screen' to turn page.
Waiting on the Kindle Voyage to be available..the page turn sensors is a must for me.

It is actually an "AD" on their main page now, so I don't believe it is a pricing error...

The voyage is available in canada now but it's $300: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00IOY ... _dk_ki_txt

I bought one when they first came out in the states and the dollar was close to par. It's a really good device but even at ~$200 it was hard to justify. I don't know if I would pay $300

I've had both. Eventually sold the Kindle and kept the PaperWhite because reading in the dark or in bed without turning the light on and bothering my SO was worth it.

The screen is also much crisper. And I got the PW for 99$ when it was on special vs 49$ for the basic Kindle also when it was on special.

All in all, I would recommend the PW over the basic.

I think it's because you picked the one with ''special offers''. Isnt that the model with spam on it?

The one referenced is a new model for both Canada and the U.S. which won't be available to ship until July. But the base model is still using a cheaper lo-res panel without a built-in light.

Color e-ink exists but they haven't incorporated this technology into their readers. Until they do, I won't be replacing my paperwhite.

I ordered it and at some point I'll look at the reviews and cancel if it doesn't seem that great. Have a Sony 300 that's falling apart. I wanted one with a backlight but they're quite a bit more. Might use this for a few years until backlight gets even cheaper.
