[Amazon.ca] nokia 5.3 $349

https://www.amazon.ca/NOKIA-5-3-Snapdra ... 933&sr=8-3

its brand new and under $400
i picked this over the moto g8, lg g8x, note 10 and s10lite deals because
1) its in the android one program so fast updates and stock android
2) its got nfc
3) 6gb of ram
4) low resolution display and large physical battery should mean great battery life
5) recently came out so its not old
6) they didnt charge tax for some reason

Reason: cleaned up retailer field
Thread Summary
Bad phone, Bad deal. OP's already cancelled order.

This international version in OP's amzn link missing almost all LTE/4G bands for Canada:
https://www.kimovil.com/en/where-to-buy ... l-6gb-64gb

The North America version would be good, but not in OP.

Decent deal. Definitely stands up to the G8 Power (current value champion imo) for the price.

Review:

Specs:

Agree with all your points — my take:

+ Reputable Brand
+ Android One is a major plus here, this phone will continue to get updates for a while
+ 6GB RAM is unheard of at this price bracket, very good.
+ 4000mAh battery life is great
+ Snapdragon 665 is a great processor
+ No bloatware
+ Headphone jack
= Huge form factor. This could be a positive or a negative depending on your preferences.
- That 720p screen is not great, especially at this size. You're looking at basically half the pixel density of most other phones.
- Plastic frame. Minor negative, but this phone creeps into the price territory where you should expect an aluminum frame.

In general, it all looks pretty positive.

Two questions I don't have answers for:
- It's an international version. Does it come with a Canadian Warranty?
- It's an international version. Which bands does it support?

Phones to cross-shop with:
- iPhone SE
- Pixel 3A (or Pixel 4A, due this month)
- Moto G8 Power
- Moto One Action
- Samsung Galaxy A51
- TCL 10L
- Redmi Note 9S

Hmmmm I'm also cross shopping with Moto G8 Power for battery, iPhone SE, and the Pixel 4a which should be released already FFS. Now I gotta look at the Nokia to see if its any good.

According to the Amazon listing, it's missing bands 4 and 17, among others, which may mean very spotty coverage. Otherwise, it's definitely worth a look.

in terms of cross shopping

pixel 3a - overpriced
pixel 4a - pushed to october
moto g8 - lacks nfc
iphone se - doesnt run android
galaxy a51 - samsung software means lag over time and delayed updates and duplicate apps
redmi note 9s - probably good but i dont want to deal with china shipping, also not stock android so delayed/missing updates possibly
tcl 10l - i cant find this phone anywhere, i would want this with the free tv lol
moto one action - exynos processors are found to be worse than snapdragon in batterylife and performance

That lack of tax brings the effective pre-tax Ontario price to $308.85.

Not a bad price for a 6GB RAM offering.

The Snapdragon 665 is a decent performer, it's definitely a sliding scale though. It's just below Snapdragon 835 (2017), three generations behind the flagship 865 which is already aging.

And yet despite that all, it's competitive on price alone.

Source: https://nanoreview.net/en/soc-compare/q ... dragon-665 [845 shown here, but 835 also beats it.]

On price alone, it's on my radar after I sold my burner. I just don't need that much phone in a second phone, as this would make a great primary phone for someone.

Edit: Lack of bands kills this deal dead. Avoid.

I do not recommend. Android one is appealing though...

*Context* Main phone was Nokia 7 from 2017, 6gb ram; its replacement was the g8x.

Dealbreakers for this phone:

1) Nokia brand was sold to china, the phones are pretty but ergonomics and usability are horrendous: My phone will slide off a table with a any slight angle. My hand hurts from one handed operation, and detects my palms when I reach over to the other side of the screen.
2) No OLED screen = using it at night is no longer acceptable given the OLED options out there.
3) appalling options for cases, nothing from the major one
4) No water reistance.

HMD Global has a license to make Nokia branded phones. They do not own the brand.
