Tempted. I have a 2017 shield still running as primary 4K device and doing most Plex serving, Firestick 4ks elsewhere. I’m not exactly how much more I’d get with this upgrade.

If they had regular stock levels for the damn thing it wouldn’t be so tempting...

I would suggest people who don’t see the difference, or don’t want to pay more just stay away from it, and leave the stock to the others, who know the difference )))

Seems like there has been a lot of interest in the pro recently and I don't recall there being this much activity on it before when the regular and pro were being discussed.
The Pro is the new "regular" shield TV when coming from 2015 and 2017 models, only real difference is Dolby Vision and a new remote. The tube is basically a lite version with less RAM / storage and no USB ports.

All have the same chipset so performance is comparable (2019 uses Tegra X1+ but only slight bump over 2015, 2017 X1).

Bah (or yeah!!!) - pulled the trigger.
The delay for snagging this has been so long, and Staples availability (item and coupon) is a crap shoot.
Thanks OP

Got tired of waiting for this to be in stock and ordered 2 Shield TV's (tubes) a month ago. So far so good. Plex running from my Synology NAS DS418 is slower than I thought though.

Thanks OP. Been wanting one. Pretty tempting but I don't really need this. Also just bought a Schitt stack.

I have a duo core optiplex I bought for 14.xx running win10 and plex with Chromecast/PS4/xbox. Mostly 1080p content as none of the 1080p TVs I own want to die yet. Will definitely upgrade to one of these when one does.

Side question: Anyone stream Plex Media through PS4 and wifi? Is it also garbage for you too?

Currently I only use my Shield 2017 for 4K video sources or files my Samsung KU7000 can't handle like h265 codecs. Otherwise, the TV has great up scaling even though it's now more than 3 years old. Would look at an OLED TV as my next one but still a bit pricey...

Edit: Seems like it might be an older version. NVM.

Isn't this at Best Buy for $199.99? Totally sold out, but maybe a PM opportunity.

I actually wondered the same... Is it truly an older version? If so, that could justify the big price difference.

I have the non pro version (tube), and so far I don't really know how to use this to its full potential... I'm using it like any other streaming device, and that seems to be a waste.

Where do I find the good stuff to do with this thing?

Yes the remotes are different. Best Buy and other retailers may have cleared the old stock before the new one came in and it seems worth paying the extra for upgrade...that is if you can find the new version anywhere.

start gaming on it? get a xbox one bluetooth controller and play controller supported games like kotr.
others use it to stream their gaming desktop to their tv so you don't need your pc tower near the tv.

Can anyone confirm if this is the new Pro version?

Also, is it true that this is the only media device can that play Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision files in 4K on OLED tv?

r/ShieldAndroidTV - reddit might be a good start.
