[Amazon.ca] Panasonic Bathroom Fan - $115.51 (Warm)

Panasonic FV-0510VS1 WhisperValue Multi-Flow Bathroom Fan, White.

$115.51. Seems to sell for $140+ most other places.
It's gone lower according Camel x3 - as low as $93 back in Jan 2020 (but inflation, right?!).

Needed two bathroom fans for our old house that didn't have any. Stumbled across these. Panasonic bathroom fans are very well reviewed so decided to jump at it. Hopefully someone finds this deal useful.

Beware that the outlet appears to be an oval and not round as it's a low profile fan.

Does anyone know if you are installing this size of fan (FV-0511VQ1) in an attic, does it mater what size it is? This one says 2x8 construction. My trusses are 2x4 but its just in the attic so there is tons of room. The existing fan housing that is there extends beyond the bottom of the truss (i.e. its taller than the 2x4). I am thinking that the size only maters if installed in an enclosed cavity like a wall or a ceiling with no attic above. Can anyone confirm?

I'm not a constructicon, but yes this is a compact model with a smushed 4" duct, meant for fitting into tight places. Panasonic's user manuals have excellent details to help you choose exactly what you want. Panasonic makes the best bathroom fans, but for noise and performance you want the biggest fan and duct you can fit, which might mean not this one. Panasonic makes a TON of fan models of different types and names and prices, and the further the confusion, not every story has every model, and even the WhisperRemodel at HomeDepot isn't listed on the Panasonic Canada website. So it took me a while to narrow down to which one I wanted to get. Start with the duct size, then if you want a light. If you don't want any more advanced features than that, the search will be easier. Buckle up for some research. Good luck!

So I actually dug into all the confusing Panasonic models at one point, the ones that say DC fans will generally be more energy efficient (higher cfm/watt) and more quiet (lower sones).

Panasonic WhisperCeiling DC FV-0511VQ1
50cfm, <0.3sones, 12.5cfm/watt
80cfm, <0.3sones, 13.6cfm/watt
110cfm, <0.3sones, 10.6cfm/watt

Panasonic WhisperValue DC FV-0510VS1 (4" oval duct in OP)
50cfm, <0.3sones, 12.8cfm/watt
80cfm, 0.4sones, 11.4cfm/watt
110cfm, 0.9sones, 9.2cfm/watt

Panasonic WhisperRemodel FV0811RF1 (Home Depot link)
80cfm, <0.3sones, 3.7cfm/watt
110cfm, 0.8sones, 4.2cfm/watt

You have to ask? The Japanese hasn't been in this kind of low end manufacturing for decades.

On this topic - Has anyone seen a fan that can reverse the flow? I mean to get air from outside

I was wondering why someone was asking if it has a AC or DC motor on the HD website, that explains it.
Also as to why HD can sell them cheap(er)

The WhisperChoice FV-0811RQ1 list AC, < 0.3/0.4 sone, makes sense, same flow but larger enclosure/fan so less noise

HD also have the WhisperThin FV0810RS1 which is noisier, AC < 0.5 / 1.1 sone

The higher priced ones 140+ have more cfm.. there are lots of models so make sure you compare Red Apple 2 Red Apple

I know got 2x 130cfm for $130 at HD last yr.

Also if your putting this in a bathroom make sure you run an insulated duct to the roof to prevent any condensation when hot air meets cold air.

There was a recent thread of Panasonic fans from home depot. They sold it as "new low price" but they increased the price in the new year. I was going to grab another as I thought that's the new price.
Uh, yeah, I'd like to speak to a Mr. Tabooger, first name Ollie.

Thanks OP- missed that HD deal couple months ago. But this seems to be better for $20 more with more speeds! Perfect timing for my reno.

You got a shitty toaster because you paid 10 dollars for it, not because it’s not made in Japan.
