[Amazon Canada] Patriot Memory 8GB DDR3 CL11 PC3-12800 1600MHz ~ $40

DRAM prices are still dropping but this is a good price for a DDR3 stick if you need one.

Similar to last year, people on kijiji/craigslist are selling PC3-12800 1600 MHz DDR3 ram in 8GB increments at $50 a piece. Ideally your target should be $30 per 8GB piece.

My current ram is CS9, is this going to present issues when used with this ram?

It isn't recommended but you can do it. Sometimes you'll run into issues but lots of people have done it. Both brands need to be able to run at the same voltage and same timing.

Worst case Amazon offers free returns if it doesn't work. Keep in mind though, this is a single stick.

SSD makes a bigger impact than RAM. Extra RAM will help those cases if you are editing multimedia files or doing software development. For the rest of the people, it is better to invest in SSD rather than RAM.

I have a Lenovo Z50-70 that I would like to put more ram in, but how do I find out if the timing matches the existing stick in that computer?

You can use something like HWiNFO64 to give you detailed info on your ram and other components installed:
