I Won't be buying, but this is an amazing deal, and gives me high hopes for the next gen cards... You're paying roughly $1000 USD which is $250 chepaer USD than the price in this video review!! I expect the next gen cards to maybe actually live up to their performance gains..... Maybe a 4080 really can be 70 to 80% faster than a 3080 at 4K

Been out of it for a long while, what's the situation when it comes to AMD versus Nvidia GPUs these days?

This actual card is better than a 3090, and basically same performance as the 3090ti at half the price. This is true of most games that most people play.

I have the 6900XT Red Devil Ultimate, there is no need for a 3090, let alone a 3090ti.

A good bonus is it uses about 40% less power than the 3090ti

Amd provides better value for performance. Nvidia can do much better raytracing in a few games where that matters.

This price is crazy, several hundred cheaper than the reference for 10% more performance

What about heat and energy efficiency? Is AMD still much worse in that area?

For context I still have a GTX970 which is the last time I looked at GPUs, to show how behind I am.

Wow, that's interesting. I haven't been keeping an eye on AMD cards and I didn't know they had such powerful cards on the market.

3090ti uses up to 480watts, 6950 XT Red Devil is 335watts.......

This is also the first generation in a while where AMD drivers are reliable, sad statement about the past

The 4080 will only be with 350 watts, so even when you factor in the wattage issue, it's still best to wait

There are many many games that use RT now not just a few and in RT it struggles to keep up to 3070's especially with DLSS but this is a great deal no matter what you play, you can dial down the RT settings if need be.

Those are the estimates for 4090/Ti not 4080 and until they are actually released nobody knows.

The issue with the 4xxx card power requirements is that they're rumoured to be WILDLY faster. So, while the top-end cards draw more power, the power required to provide a certain amount of performance will likely drop.

e.g. if you wanted 144FPS in some game ... the 3xxx card capable of this might draw 400w, the 4xxx card that can do the same seems likely to draw 300w. However, if you are "only" getting 30FPS with a 3090ti drawing 450w or whatever they draw, you are looking to be able to get 60FPS with a theoretical 4090ti drawing "only" 600w.

These new cards are exciting. I loved when AMD came along and forced Intel to un-cripple their CPUs to compete. At least nVidia were always pretty good with pushing the GPU envelope, but with AMD looking to come out with something pretty meaty, it looks like nVidia are going all in as well. It's a good time for computer people, now that GPU shortages are largely dying off.
