Great device. Don't give to parents for IPTV, especially tech-illiterate mothers.

Otherwise great.

Thanks OP. I was hoping that Fire TV Stick would go on sale during Prime Days. This is discounted more than I was hoping for.

I don't have a 4K TV yet but I think that 4K stick is a better option for few more bucks. Plus, as someone pointed out, this is future proof.

Why does the link take me to Amazon.com? This issue is still not fixed (it's posted in the site suggestions forum). Gonna make prime days a blast

Yes, better hardware.

4K is worth it even if you don't have a 4K TV. Yet. ;)

I have 2 of the pendant type 4K Fire Sticks and a couple of the 1080P versions.
The 4K are faster/more responsive.

The 1080Pp version is OK for a bedroom TV - we even have a 1080p version on our (crappy $88 on Boxing Day Door Crasher at Badboy - 32" 720p) kitchen TV.

Here's what's rumoured to be available on Prime Day on Amazon.COM:

Are there any cons to having one stick and moving it between TV rooms as needed? I plan on using it for Plex downstairs and regular streaming upstairs. Is it essentially plug-and-play?

I just need the FireTV remote for my Shield TV. Hope that gets discounted as well. However, if the regular 1080P version is $27.99, I suppose I can just buy that and use the remote.

Get the 4K. It is really faster.

Also even if you plug it on a non 4K tv, the base one can be a problem.

Ex: I have 4K x265 movie for my living room tv.
The base fire stick in my bedroom cannot handle 4k x265 movie... Need to transcode... And transcoding 4k hvec is not an easy task.

What's the point of this device if you have a smart TV that has the apps already?

If you really want to save, the non-4K also does the job nicely. I got them only for the ability of screen-mirroring (that 4K version does not support)
Does the non 4k version support airplay? (Screen mirroring for Apple devices)
I have the 4k version and it doesn’t.

Does the 4K version work with Plex ? I have 2 of the regular version and Plex has never worked properly. (Intermittent shuddering)

Can the 4k stick direct play or direct stream x265 on Plex or does it transcode too?
