Depends on what you value. I've had both so here is my opinion:
If you value sound and features: Sony's app has a lot customizations and an EQ. I also prefer the sound quality (livelier, bassier) on the Sony's.
ANC: I would say that they are both equal but I found that the Bose's generate a more noticeable pressure on my ears when ANC is active.
Bose is older than the Sony's which is why you get micro-USB charging.
Sony's have issues with the touchpad in cold weather - if you are going to wear them in the winter this might be an issue.
I haven't been able to test the mics but I read that Bose's tend to pick up more background noise.
Comfort: I felt that the comfort was better on the Bose's although the Sony's are no slouch in that department. YMMV.
Customer support from Bose is better.

You don't need the new XM4 unless you need true multipoint bluetooth. This is more than good enough for most people

I have these and love them. I believe Sony ahs fixed the cold weather issue, but cannot confirm. I never use mine outside, and when I do (for shoveling), I have a hood on so it doesn't really affect it. For those thinking of QC35 or these, check out the review for the QC35. The first one has a pretty good summary of the pros and cons of each.

I tried them both side by side in a Best Buy Store before covid and the ANC on the XM3 was noticeably supérior to the QC35.
But the QC35 felt more comfortable, but I can't really confirm as I never wore them for a long period of time.

Sony quietly fixed the cold weather issue on later builds. I bought these over the 2019 holiday season and never had any issues shoveling or walking around in bitterly cold conditions. Also, on forum boards like Reddit, I didn't see any complaints about cold weather issues the 2019/2020 winter. This post had a question about the cold weather and responses were positive for the issue being fixed:

I've owned these in the past and their sound quality and noise cancelling are both great. But they don't breathe at all, I find that if I take them out for any kind of light activity or even sitting around in them for an hour I get really sweaty fast.

I've owned both, and while I agree the Sony ANC is impressive, there are pros that make Bose the clear winner IMO:

1. Insanely more comfortable. You can wear the Bose for a full business day without needing to take them off. Sony is a much snugger fit. Comes down to preference, but longest duration I can wear the Sony's for is 2-3 hours. As someone alluded to here, I travelled a ton pre-pandemic and bought the Bose after seeing too many pairs to ignore in airports.

2. Bose's customer service blows Sony's non-existent service out of the water. They've sent me brand new Soundsport buds on multiple occasions, even where the fault was my own (I even told them I had put them in the washing machine...)

I have the XM3s and they are outstanding! I chose these over Bose early last year.
That being said, the lack of 2 bluetooth connections is enraging having had that prior.

In hindsight, I'd go with the Bose QuietComfort IIs on amazon for 269.99 or refurb for 249.99.
(2) reasons; the comfort and the dual BT connections.

i dont need multipoint connection, but i do need the ability to cycle through a pairing list, which can be done with the QC35 with the button on the right side.

Is this doable here?

I was looking up some info on this yesterday. For ANC headphones, call quality on this is not as good compared to Bose 700 and Surface Headphones 2. The M4 has improved call quality over M3. Having said that, I haven’t tried any of these myself. I ordered the Surface Headphone 2 yesterday for the call quality. Tough choice today. I would be tempted to go for the M3.

Same, all my research and youtube video comparisons point to the Bose 700 being all round good for calls. I am in IT so I'm on calls throughout the day and for me it's phone + teams/skype so multipoint would be a huge deal. Stupid Bose 700 haven't been on sale at all and I have been tracking for a while.....I have some microsoft credit i wanna use but even then the price is so high for me....The walmart 299 deal was super hot but no stock near me lol.

Let me know how the Surface ones pan out!
