Stack is worth it IF any of the channels included are channels you watch heavily.

My household lives and breaths HGTV and Food channel. The on demand content through stack is fairly extensive, far more than regular cable offers. It’s also worth noting the live stream channels appear to be at higher quality (1080p) than Bell Alt TV (720p).

To get most of these channels on regular cable you’d have to spend at cheapest close to $30 for Bell Alt TV Premium. Of course bell Alt tv gives you all these channels and more — but if you only really care about a specific channel’s content like hgtv, stack is great.

My wife and I used Stack several months — while we feasted on the on demand HGTV content, we also liked the kids stuff included (teletoons, treehouse, Ytv) for our toddler. Global satisfied our basic cable needs/news combined with OTA to catch other Canadian stations.

At $13 plus tax (total $15) I felt stack was worth it. At $6.50 plus $1 tax, it’s a no brainer, I’m cancelling my bell Alt tv to get this for 3 months. The only thing I’ll really miss is on demand access to talent shows but the stack on demand content will more than make up for that.

Basically, if you are a junkie of any of these channels, you won’t get a larger library of these channels on demand content through any other service - including cable.

Thank you for this extensive summary! That's great!

Also, if you live and breathe Food Channel, check out Masterchef Australia. The subreddit posts the download streams. https://www.reddit.com/r/MasterchefAU/

It's truly the NICEST masterchef anywhere in the world. (Last season was also terrific.)

The big thing for me and my wife is having access to on demand content. When we got sucked into a cheap bell package via Alt TV I was so happy to have access to HGTV and Food Network again. I realized quickly though bell Alt tv is all about live channel streams - on demand content for specialty channels is extremely limited.

Stack TV gives you multiple season on demand content of core hgtv and food network shows (and the other channels included in the package). I guess over the years of being a cord cutter my patience for scheduled programming and commercials has gone down the tubes. We have really missed the on demand content of Stack for core specialty channels we love so this is a really hot deal for us.

My wife and I love Masterchef, we will check it out!

No worries, makes sense! If you can remember to let me know I would appreciate it so we can cancel and do the same.

I like Prime Video and all, but the rest just sound like more channels I won’t watch.
YMMV but Starz, MGM, and Hollywood Suite have a lot of great content.

Chappa'ai!

Not having AP anymore I did not know they had sub channels like Acorn/Britbox. If you currently sub to Acorn and watch via a Chromecast app can I access it through Prime with the same login or it's got to be through Amazon?

It is a big turn off to see commercials on stacktv when you have to pay for the subscription.
Is there a way to take these off? If there is, I might considering rejoining.

The annoying commercials offers no value and shows up every 7-10 min.

The latter, the Prime Video website/apps don't allow any kind of outside auth, they only allow you to view channels you've subscribed to through Amazon.

The converse is also true – if you subscribe through Amazon, generally you have to watch through Prime, even for services with their own apps. Which is a deliberate choice by Amazon to try to get you to stay in their ecosystem.

No way to turn them off. From the standpoint of Corus (the company that owns HGTV, Showcase, etc.), StackTV covers the subscription fees that you'd pay for these channels through a cable provider, but not the ad revenue. And it doesn't look like they're in a rush to offer an ad-free option.

Anyone figured out if you can subscribe and cancel right away so you only pay for the three months at the 50% off price?

I have not tried this but I have not seen anything suggesting you'd pay upfront for all three months - you still pay monthly at the reduced rate. So if you cancel right away, you'd only be charged for the first month, and should not expect to be able to resubscribe later and get the 50% off for the next two months.

You will have to cancel after the 3rd billing, in August or early September. If you cancel right after starting it, you will get 1 month at 50% off, and then it will terminate after 30 days. It's easy to cancel and I have canceled and restarted 2-3 times already, I do it whenever there is a promo. Next promo will likely be in November for Black Friday.

It sucks.. but the I've taken to just using that 30 seconds to check RFD for something else to spend money on ;)

What's funny.. we tuned into the live channel last night for Food network and within 15 minutes we decide no way.. I'm much more accepting of the 30 seconds 3-4 times an episode now after seeing what "normal" tv is like! I haven't had live tv in 20 years, so it sure is crazy.
