[Amazon Canada] Pure Vanilla Extract - Club House - 455ml - $28.61

Seems cheap although I could be wrong.
Near indefinite shelf life if properly stored.

It costs so much here?

I buy for $2-3 in Mexico for half the size of the bottle in this thread. If it costs so much here, maybe I should bring whole a lot more for my cooking friends.

What city? If near the lower mainland, I'd happily buy some off you. Just thinking a Mexican friend of mine in town would get a kick out of it (doesn't get to travel south much, though he's more into cocoa).

The Costco price last week according to East thread was $42.99 for 473ml. So this seems decent deal.

I was in Merida in the Yucatan last year and priced the vanilla at Costco hoping to take advantage of the lower prices. Unfortunately, cost was pretty much the same as in Canada. There is a world wide shortage and I pay more than double what I did a couple of years ago. For those who want to experiment, try replacing the vanilla with maple syrup.

Either you're buying fake vanilla, or it's been years since you've been down to Mexico.

There's a huge shortage of vanilla and the price has sky-rocketed in the last few years.

I used to get whole vanilla beans for $1-2 each.... They are now like $8-15 each

I have purchased vanilla in Mexico and don't think it is "fake". There are various iterations and some are better than others. Check this video for an explanation of the price escalation.

Not only is it fake, but much of it is made with toxic ingredients. I’m sure you can find real vanilla in Mexico, but not for $2-3 in tourist destinations. I was there earlier this year. I saw a ton of it in all the tourist shops and I even smelled the open bottles they have on the shelf for you to try. It’s garbage! Just google “Mexico vanilla fake” and you’ll see plenty of evidence. The only thing I trust in Mexico is the tacos, coronas and cocaine!

If it's real, you have a huge opportunity to make a lot of money. But be weary because why would they sell it to you for 2-3$ when they can export and sell for 10x the price

I remember studying the vanilla molecule in chemistry class. Unlike most flavour molecules, it can be easily synthesized in a lab with 100% accuracy, so synthetic vanilla extract should be as good as the real thing if it’s from a reputable source/brand.
