depends on the chore you have eyes on. But these 4gb of ram in the same ball park price wise but slower more energy efficent soc run coreelec with linux 4.9 and docker support on an a55 soc for shield capable playback locally including atmos with usb 3 and gigabit. Which, since these have psu's, are even cheaper since a true genuine rpi 4 psu is another 10 to 12 heck even a decent true 3 amp capable usb c cable is 10 bucks. Remote could work in linux but your gonna have tinker for it and it supports cec too so you arguably won't need too.

about the only 2 at amazon worth looking at, I actually own the h96 for almost a 6 months or more now. they can be found cheaper at china sites but shipping would be 2weeks atleast. Kinda like the external antenna on the one, wonder if it actually does 5ghz thru the external too that dipole style sure doesn't look like a true 5ghz dipole tho.

banggood and aliexpress are the only 2 I bother with anymore. As linux and attention has grown greatly the prices have gone up also covid hasn't made things cheaper, even odroid sells an odroid c4 with the same soc which basically has equal playback to their odroid n2 or s922. So prices vary week to week.

Be very wary they do sell plenty of boxes of a variety of names that don't have gigabit. The h96 max 32gb to 128 are gigabit. Any s905x3 with only 2gb of ram isn't gigabit arguably more versions don't come with gigabit than do. It used to be 64gb rom meant gigabit but thats not true anymore so double check if you sway from the above mentioned.

Its decent the s905x3 is a little faster than even the s912. I will say they are supposed to release the s905x4 this fall which will come with av1 support.

This or the 3 B+ for Octoprint?

Edited: Looks like the 4 is fully compatible with Octoprint and the cam module V2. Since it's basically the same price as the 3 B+, I went with the 4 even if it's probably overkill.

I had the same question and came to the same conclusion. Overkill is my style though!

Bought one for NAS implementation. Will be purchasing a 8-12TB HDD shortly and just run it via USB3 with external power source. Media will be pulled from it via lan to my plex server (nvidia shield).

Cheap nas if you can follow the setup guide.

depends on the os your interested in. If you mean download a pihole and flash to card and run it like any rpi then probably not and thats just ridiculous to waste this or even an rpi 4 on for just pihole. buy zero if its just going to run pihole or any tvbox around +30 bucks that has some kinda 4.x linux kernel support for a newer docker container to run pihole.

But under 4.9 kernel coreelec in docker yeah pihole should run no problem and many more dockers too. Older say s905 or s905x or s805 ect in say coreelec which still runs 3.14 kernel. no those can't because the docker container is too old. But coreelec for s905x3 is atleast kernel 4.9 and soon 5. it can run pihole or adguard or pretty much most dockers just fine.

N64 isn't working great on RPi4 although it might in the future. A lot of games don't run well, including GoldenEye.

It's pretty good for other consoles including Dreamcast, PlayStation and PSP.

Not a bad price if you want to swap out a dead board or something, but tbh, after you add a good power supply and an SD card, you're right back up at the package prices from buyapi or canakit...

Way overkill. I run pi-hole on a pi zero.
