[Amazon.ca] Renewed: Lg G8X phone with dual screen case

LG G8X ThinQ 128GB DUAL SCREEN LMG850
Sale price for prime subscribers.

For anyone looking for a cheaper entry point into the dual screen scene, LG’s Last years flagship with great battery life (when not using the second screen) and a decent camera (gcam). Seems to be a good community on Reddit and xda as well.

Note: in screen fingerprint reader is not the greatest.

This is a pretty cold deal. It was 299USD from B&H this week. I'd wait if you want this phone seems they're trying to get rid of them now.

Although it's a possibility, I wouldn't worry too much about it. At the very least, B&H says it should work with Canadian carriers so I would expect NFC and bands to be fine (I'm not entirely sure about stuff like wifi calling).

If you're concerned about that stuff, B&H still has the North American variant on sale for $399 USD new with 2 year warranty (so works out a little less than renewed from Amazon): https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... l/overview

It looks like the only big difference is that the North American variant has 1 more band for Freedom: https://www.kimovil.com/en/frequency-ch ... -g8x-thinq

I paid $850 at launch w/DualScreen (Nov 1 2019) which I felt was OK. But now realizing it was just another device LG was going to throw under the bus in terms of support I feel anything over $400 is too much.

Don't buy this phone. The dual screen hinge breaks quite easily from normal usage. I've only had this phone for about four months and LG wouldn't cover it. Called it physical damage.

Could you recommend the phone at all without the second screen? I’m tempted by the freedom mobile deal.

I personally have no issues with the device itself actually finding it more than decent... In-display fingerprint sensor is my only real gripe w/hardware yet does get the job done albeit slowly. For me the real sour grapes come in due to LG's nearly non-existent support. So yeah I could recommend the device as a stand-alone if we could get past the dismal support, and price was right.

this is not true. i've had my phone since launch and i've dropped it a couple times. Case and screen is still intact.

Well it was true for me and their support sucks. So yeah. I'd avoid it like the plague.

Don't agree with this. I've put mine through some abuse and it still works perfectly. The hinge is fine. This price is not good though.

I dunno, to me, without the second screen, then you may as well get the regular LG G8, unless you covet the increased battery life.

Just a warning for the unwary.

The phone itself without the screen case is so ridiculously slippery it will drive you bananas. Even on what you thought was a level coffee table it will slowly start to slide off until it falls to the floor. Already have broken my screen -- touch surface still works, but LG's service doesn't seem to even answer the phone since COVID hit so I can't be bothered. I found the dual screen fine and very handy in some situations (eg. youtube on one screen and web browsing on the other, gaming using one screen as a touch pad, cutting and pasting two-step verification passwords without having to leave a tab) but the overall added bulk of the screen meant that I left it home more often than not. Also noteworthy is LG's floating dual screen control app will mess with some web pages that need 'use GPS' confirmations because it's acts like an invisible open window and Chrome can't seem to cope with it.

The back of the main phone is so much like greased glass I would class it as a design flaw in an otherwise fine, if perhaps unremarkable phone.
