will these work even if the nightly temps dips to -40C ? won't the batteries break?

Batteries are rated to -40, have had mine outside for a year and haven’t had to replace.

i had the xt2 set up for my parents home. The batteries lasted one winter. But here in Edmonton we experience at least a week of -25 or colder weather once or twice over winter.
depending on the weather, I would just change them in the fall with new batteries so that they last until the following fall.

Costco sells the energizer ultimate lithiums for pretty cheap but it is a factor to keep in mind.
