[Amazon.ca] Ryzen 3600 CPU $254.99 (Amazon.ca and Newegg.ca)

Amazon and Newegg have the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 discounted to $254.99. This is the lowest price ever on Amazon according to CCC.

A few dollars cheaper than normal, nothing major but still worthy of a post. Why did someone downvote?

Anything posted on Hot Deals could be cheaper on Black Friday or Cyber Monday. That doesn't change the fact that this is the cheapest price ever on Amazon according to CCC.

This is a great processor at a good price, which is why I felt it should be posted.

Are the downvotes for the processor, the price, or the retailer?

Great CPU... and I just bought it from Amazon :(

I don't understand why they wouldn't just give you the price difference instead of forcing you to buy and send back. They probably anticipate people won't bother. It is a hassle plus extra cost for Amazon. They must have done the math and it was cheaper for them to make it difficult for buyers.

The advantage for Amazon is they'll take back used computer components without a restocking fee within 30 days.

Order a new one at the cheaper price and send back the old one after it arrives... or send back the new one using the old receipt, but that may not be ethical for some people (or it could get rejected if they scanned the serial numbers).

I just chatted with Amazon and they were able to give me a $10 credit. The rep specifically said it was a one time courtesy gesture and should not be viewed as a price match because that is against their policy. I definitely feel better considering I just bought it and would have been such a hassle for me and an unnecessary expense for them.

the lowest price was $250, as I recall from memory express, which was quickly removed after posting on RFD.

This close to BF, might as well wait... besides, no real games to release until DOOM ETERNAL which is pushed to release on MARCH 20, 2020...

And nVidia will announce some new GTX 1660 SUPER's soon so it's a wait and see at the moment...

cheers,

Agreed (and upvoted the OP). Decent deal but I'm waiting for BF to go on a binge which will include this cpu.

It was literally this price at mikes for awhile after the $249.99 deal a couple weeks ago. I was fortunate to get the price error on the 3600X for $249.99.

What would be a good motherboard to go with this processor? Thank you for suggestions!

B450 Tomahawk MAX is commonly recommended as a good motherboard for ryzen. All the MAX branded motherboards will be compatible with ryzen 3000 out of the box, other motherboards may be as well, you just have to look for the "ryzen 3000 ready" badge on the box. Some of the other motherboards will require a ryzen 2000 or 1000 cpu to be able to flash the correct bios. Something to look out for when buying a motherboard.

I would love to buy a new and ryzen but they have nothing really in the laptop department that could be used for gaming.

Some motherboards support flashback as well (ie. B450 Tomahawk, B450 Pro Carbon, etc...). With flash-back you just need a USB and a computer to download the firmware (no older Ryzen chip required).

I second this. I am using the non-MAX MSI B450 Tomahawk with my 3600 and it worked flawlessly after I flashed the correct bios. The MAX version was updated specifically for Ryzen 3000 processors so the processor will work right out of the box on that motherboard.

The price is mostly the same everywhere right now ($160), but will probably drop for Black Friday/Cyber Monday.

Unless you are comfortable flashing your bios make sure you get the MAX version since there are still some older boards available.

If you want something more future proof you can always go for an X570 board, but you'll pay more for it.
