From Rtings
Just like all of the latest Samsung TVs we've tested, the RU8000 has ads. Ads and suggested content appear in both in the app store and on Samsung's Smart Hub, and neither can be disabled.

I was a little suspicious when the Amazon page showed the screen at 1000$ off.
The exact model is 899$ (-300$) at Best Buy.
Wow KH! Wish I saw this before it sold out. Not easy to find the RU8000 anymore and recently I saw the 65” for $1199 “on clearance”. $899 a very fair price. One of the better non local dimming sets out there it seems.

No? It seems to be mentioned regularly for the low end Samsung’s. But I’m certainly no expert.

I was about to happily pull the trigger at that price but the set doesnt have HDMI2.1 inputs (I pre-ordered the Xbox X).
Starting to see a lot of 2019 models on sale lately. Here's to 2020... i mean 2021.. Smiling Face With Sunglasses
Cheers, KH

What do you need HDMI 2.1 for if the TV isnt 120hz?

I’ve always had bad luck with Samsung.. appliances, TV, all died within 3-5 years..

I owned 2 Samsung TVs in last 5 years .. not sure if anyone else experienced same..

For this deal, Samsung is always aggressive on pricing.. so Black Friday , prime day or not .. I bet it will cheaper in next 90 days!

I've had the complete opposite experience with Samsung, Oven and 3 TV's all going 5+ years with everything working.
That said, Im moving away from them for my next TV, since others seem to have better bang for your buck.

I’ve spent plenty (too much?) of time on rtings. But I’m going to guess that most sets you are thinking of have local dimming. Or are OLED which is outside the scope of a budget tv conversation.

Alternate suggestions would probably be more helpful to readers than just “No” and “Check rtings”.

Not enough if you are recommending the RU8000.

I compare same size/ same price.

You think I'm an idiot. I am not.

You are too kind. That set has local dimming. Possibly you misread my statement which you quoted.

I bought the 75" model last Black Friday. It's a perfectly fine set. Thanks OP.

The only advertisement that appears is on the bottom Tizen ribbon, like a windows start button - a square no larger or distracting than the other apps installed. You'd have to click and select it to launch a full screen ad.
Doesn't have local dimming. Is this a necessity in your household? I found I didn't need it where my tv is placed.

Compared to this year's TU8000, the RU8000 is a stronger contender without having to jump to the Qseries of Samsung TVs.

Hope that helps your decision.
