I bought the gold for $600 on Prime Day. While it wasn't a hot price, considering that Bell sells it outright at $720, it was a decent price. This, on the other hand, is more expensive than Bell, even if unlocked.

Factory unlock also gets you updates directly from Samsung which means that you get them ages before the carrier models.

Retail version is factory sealed as well. You buy it from bell it's already opened, some bell employee puts his corporate shilly hands all over it and plugs it into a computer installs bell crap ware then re packages it. Not to mention if you buy from bell and then unlock it you have to give up your imei number to some shady characters...which could or could not use that to clone and mask there real phone imei...etc...unless you wait 90 days and have bell unlocking for you.

Thanks for the info. I really don't see that much value in being unlocked though, it's not like it costs that much to unlock it..

But yes for $30 more of course it's better to get the unlocked version since you'd pay maybe $20 on ebay or whatever to get it unlocked..

I was just hoping that this would be a whole lot cheaper than getting it from somewhere like Bell, guess not

don't think so.
manufacturer got the bulk orders from the likes of rogers/bell/telus with the carrier-locked and the addition of the carriers' bloatware. Carriers don't open the boxes and do it one by one.
The only time I got an open box phone from carrier was Moto V3 razor back in 2004.
