20gbps and above enclosures are expensive. The usual $20-30 range enclosures are 10gbps which will limit the drive to max 1000MB/s or lower.

I wish I knew that before buying really fast gen 4 drives to pair with my 10gbps enclosures instead of buying a cheaper slower drive. But I guess I can wait for the 20-40gbps enclosures to get cheaper and then replace the enclosure.

Computer needs to support USB 3.2 2X2 for 20Gbps speeds, which most do not. You'll in most cases need a Thunderbolt 3/4 enclosure, which is 40Gbps. A lot of systems have skipped USB 3.2 2x2 completely in favor of Thunderbolt support.

I agree. Advantages are ruggedness, water resistance and easy firmware updates and encryption with Samsung software. If one doesn't need these, they can get a cheaper combo of drive and enclosure.

Usually with higher price you get higher reliability. So you have to decide how important your data is.

You also have to consider the use case for the storage, size is a factor and power draw can be extreme with NVMe enclosures this device more likely strikes a better balance for use with portable devices. If its for your home desktop or mac mini sure get a USB4 NVMe device.

For Amex Business card holders, you can price match the blue one on Dell. With the 20% credit, after tax, charge posted should drop to $167.99 (Alberta).

And that's before 10% Rakuten on the $209.99 order. Not sure if there's any issues with ordering via a quote vs normally to get that Rakuten.
