[Amazon.ca] Seagate Fast SSD 500GB Portable External SSD – USB-C/3.0 - $99.99

Well reviewed and all-time low price. Same price at Best Buy.

IMO, it looks better than the popular Samsung T5 and currently $30 cheaper than its all-time low.

Sweeter deal for those who have Amazon gift cards purchased from 7-11 recently from the Cineplex deal.

Sure SSD is nice and fast but honestly, 500GB SSD vs 1.5TB 2.5 4500 rpm for $30 cheaper? I'd rather go with more storage than speed.

I'd rather have storage space.

The external world is a strange and illogical place.

I received tremendous hate for suggesting to throw a $50 500GB SATA in a $10 enclosure and Bob's your uncle.

Or get a cheap NVMe and slim NVMe enclosure for ballpark pricing.

I'll see myself out.

This can't be compared to a 2.5" mechanical drive, different use case. More like a large, superfast USB flash drive you can take anywhere.

Also just noticed these also include 2 months of Adobe CC Photography, so another ~$20? Not bad!
Valid point, to a degree. It would be $15 CAD x 2 months = $30 CAD. However, it's really just a place to store your photos. Google Photos keeps them free. So let's keep that $20 of yours and meet you up at Timmies for a large double double? LOL :-)

Nice find! $10 for 500GB more storage! I see BB had it for $118 but sadly it's on that Marketplace crap and they won't price match Staples. IMO, if it's on the BB site, it should be PM'd! Period.

The Samsung T5 normally drops to around 100-110. How does this compare to the T5? I have a T5 that I use as a windows drive for my boot camp. I need another one to edit video with and not sure if this is better or the 1.5TB one

I would not downvote on ssd deals unless the price is absurdly above market price, at that point, that would be simply trolling. I remember paying $100 for my Samsung EVO 850 250gb a couple of years ago. Almost every ssd now seems to be cheaper than what I paid, lol. If I were to choose again, I would definitely choose 500gb or above. 250gb is kind of marginal.
For the storage cautious, I think any 4tb as close to $100 as possible is the sweet spot. (Probably on black fridays) To me, 2tb at $85 is never a deal. 3tb could easily be found within $100. Even 4tb at $130 is better than 2tb at $85. Just my 2 cents.

One day I should post a double deal thread with an NVMe and USB 3.1 rev2 enclosure for the Ryzen 3000 X570 folks.

No more compromising with external performance.

Hmm isn't the 2tb @ 329 also a great deal? Looks far cheaper than the 2tb equivalent from Samsung or sandisk

I meant that it looks better, appearance wise Face With Stuck-out Tongue And Tightly-closed Eyes

From what I'm reading, the specs are similar.

Thanks for sharing your preference. I use both external SSDs and HDDs - I do think it can be worth the extra $ depending on how you're using it (usually professionals prefer SSD). If you drop a HDD and there goes your data.

The NVMe + enclosure doesn't compare. For one, you won't get the same build quality or warranty. Also, where are you finding a 500 GB NVMe and enclosure combo that is less than $100?

I was spitballing with a Crucial P1 500gb NVMe and USB 3.1 gen2 enclosure and came close.

One of the reviews had it hit 1Gb/s read and write. Mensch territory.

I honestly wonder who this deal is for.

I can't think of a use case where I needed ultra fast speed and portability.

I get internal SSDs but I've never come across a situation where I've needed that sort of speed externally unless it was "permanently" external.
Do you not have anything else to do rather than argue with strangers on the internet
Nope. That's why I'm on the internet arguing with strangers. If I had anything better to do I'd probably be doing it.
