Normally I would agree, but surely for only 18 more, this might be worth it. I was looking at buying one and can't find anything that has a huge price difference between the two.legacyofprotovirus wrote: ↑ http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ps4 ... 695-3.html
An older test but AFAIK tests are generally consistent in the models. There are benefits but they're so meager that I personally just chose to save the dollars and get a Seagate 2TB from Bestbuy on boxing day last year for $99 I think.

Wish 2TB 7200rpm 2.5" drive is around the same price. Rather have consistent speed.

Ah yeah so even a pure SSD did basically nothing for performance. A 7200 RPM drive probably has the most benefit in something like the PS4. I'd go with one of those instead of an SSHD or spending crazy money on an SSD of 1TB+.legacyofprotovirus wrote: ↑ http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ps4 ... 695-3.html

"Loading the same game file 10 times, restarting the PlayStation 4 after each run, we see performance varying significantly. Even the worst run is faster than Sony's stock mechanical drive. However, I wouldn't say it's clear that SSD-like behavior is to thank."legacyofprotovirus wrote: ↑ http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ps4 ... 695-3.html

This is the key sentence right here and is the same with all SSHD drives. You only benefit loading speed with files that have been accessed recently. Level load times won't improve because most of the data has never been accessed before.
The only real improvement you'll see is OS boots, Menu Load times and Saves. Every loading time is still running at 5400rpm.

I did some research into this last week. a 2TB SSHD only has a very small amount of flash, just enough for the OS. For the price premium you will not see performance benefits on a PS4. Just get a normal mechanical 2TB instead. 99 at various places for Boxing Day. Best deal for a mechanical 2TB is the Source if you have the 25 off 100 email coupon.

The Seagate Backup Plus is $99 at Amazon.ca and The Source already
https://www.amazon.ca/Seagate-Portable- ... TSK4/?th=1
Also, the 4TB one is $30 more at Amazon.ca @ $139.99 but I think it's thicker so may not fit properly in the PS4. Not sure about XBox One.

4TB will not fit in a ps4, the height exceeds the 9.5mm maximum required. The 2016 2TB you linked to is what I bought and should have the ST2000LM007 drive in it, the older 2015 model had the ST2000LM003 which some have reported to beep in the ps4.Emgee wrote: ↑ The Seagate Backup Plus is $99 at Amazon.ca and The Source already

I ordered mine from the source, how do you tell if you will get the 2016 version or 2015, they seem to have the same model number

I prefer the new model of 1GB with 32MB of flash instead of 8MB
Model number #ST1000LX001
Just couldn't find it in Canada at a good price
