FYI These headphone are VERY neutral, great for music production stuff and sound accuracy

These were my favorites for newbies to the hobby until Chi-Fi, the HD6XX, and the HE4XX changed the game.

I bought these headphones the last time they were on sale. I love them and the sound is great.

- The first two weeks, I had a slight head pain due to the head band, but it goes away after a few uses. It's kind of a "break in" time.
- If you don't like the sound out of the box, I suggest configuring them with Parametrics EQs: https://github.com/jaakkopasanen/AutoEq ... 20HD%20599

Great buy all around !

Must resist buying another set of cans when there's no one to complain that the music or podcasts are too loud

The headband looks way better, my 598 cracked open exposing the foam. It's apparently a widespread problem.

great headphones. bought them as a gaming headset. You'll need to buy a $20 attachment to plug in your mic into the aux in though

I also have old Audio Technicas, ATH-M50X, anyone know the quality of the Sennheiser headphones compared to the AT model I have? They still work but they are getting tattered. Worth the upgrade?

Those are the exact ones I am replacing. I use them as a backup when my Bose QC35 battery is low, so I am not expecting a ton of use out of these personally. I don't think it's an upgrade, but more of a lateral move.

From Rtings

The Sennheiser HD 598 and the Sennheiser HD 599 are both very good critical listening headphones, but the HD 599 are marginally better. Though they look pretty different, they’re nearly identical in terms of comfort and build quality. The HD 599 do sound a bit better, with less underemphasized bass, but the difference will likely be negligible for most. The HD 599 also seem to isolate the wearer better than the HD 598, but neither of them isolate very much since they’re both open-back headphones. They’re very similar headphones and your personal preference will matter most in your decision.

ATH-M50X are closed back headphones. These are open, so they'll sound quite different, and are best used for less noisy environments.

ATH-M50x are closed vs the open HD 599. They are in the same "tier" though
