[Amazon.ca] Sennheiser HD 599 SE Special Edition, Black- $149.95

These Sennheiser HD 599 are on deal of the day sale on Amazon $149.95.

This isn't the lowest historical price based on camel site (I got these back last year on boxing day for $129.95), but this is a good price none the less.

Great quality, extremely comfortable(even with reading glasses) and no complaints after nine months of heavy use.
Note, these are open back headphones so you may not want to use these out in public as sound does leak out.

Completely agree, these are my daily cans since that same sale and they have been fantastic. I will recommend these any day so get them now if not wanting to risk them not dropping to last years price again.

I bought these when they were $129, they are great headphones, but I returned them because they sounded almost identical (as they should) to my HD598.

Later I bought the DT 990 pro for $166, now that was an upgrade, clearer sound. Its 250ohm from 50 ohm. DT 990 need good quality files to sound their best, and they need a stronger driver.

I still use both.

HD598 has mic, HD599 doesn't.
You can buy a 598 cable if you want the mic (for zoom calls)

Hd 598se does not have a mic. I can’t speak for the 598 though.

This is a good deal for a great pair of headphones!

I bought them on Black Friday in 2015 for 110 bucks according to my invoice. I seriously doubt we are going to see a price that low anytime soon, if ever.

I have had the 598SE for almost 5 years and I enjoyed them for years before I upgraded to the MASSDROP X SENNHEISER HD 58X JUBILEE HEADPHONES as a direct and significant upgrade to them. The 58X can be driven by a phone or laptop etc. but they sound better with a soundcard with an amp or a headphone amp. I use them with my PC mostly with a Creative Soundblaster soundcard that has an amp. They are 170 USD and you have to deal with possible fees etc. so they are much more expensive than the 599SE but they are worth every penny as they are one of the absolute best bang for the buck headphones on the market. If you get a pair make sure you reduce the clamping pressure as it is absurdly strong.

One of my kids is using the 598SE and I am considering buying one of the 599SE's for my other kid . . . I may wait to see if the price drops a bit though.

If you need headphones now these are great headphones for a very good price.

Thanks OP!

After buying and returning headphones for a couple of months, I ended up with the 599's for everyday use. I have giant ears, I have a giant skull, and I wear glasses; and I can wear these for 8 straight hours and not notice. They sound great, as well.

Also grabbed a set of Hifiman 400i for critical listening, which are also comfortable but too heavy to wear for hours.

I'm not entirely sure but from what I found online this pair is more of a side grade than an upgrade to 598SE, slightly better soundstage

it's just a replacement detachable cable with a mic inline

IMO

People should start considering swapping to wireless headphones, especially at this price range. At worst, you plug in the physical cable and boom, you have a normal headset. At best, you can use it with your phone while you're out, do light stretches/exercises in the room while watching TV or a computer monitor, or even sit on the throne and skim reddit while listening to music. Added bonus if you're in a living situation where you can't just crank the music up and want to be considerate of others, cook your bacon and jam out.

If you don't mind using wired I recommend those headphones wholeheartedly. Most comfy ever.

Seems to be a sidegrade. Price is much, much higher too then the deals we would've seen in the past. I remember getting the 598 SE for like $109.99 some years back. Then also the 598 C's closed backs I think I got for $89.99 or $99.99 CAD a few boxing days ago. Not trying to be time traveler here, but in that time, wired headphones have all but evaporated from the market as apple killed the headphone jack and other companies followed suit.

I love bpth my 598's open and closed back. But I bought them at a different time and for cheaper and it doesn't seem like Sennheiser has done any improvements since. Wired has the ability to not need batteries or recharging but I wonder if now, I wouldn't have put the money towards something like the 650's or one of the Bose Quiet Comfort II or Sony wireless headphones with anc etc.

But still, back to OP. You can't go wrong with the 599's if you want a good reliable pair of great sounding headphones.
