I've had a pair of the old version for years and _love_ them.

That said, these are studio/production/mixing headphones, which give a very "neutral" sound profile eg bass isn't punched up like most consumer/listening headphones. I used these for mixing sound for movies and needed a clear sense of how it sounds.

So, caveat emptor—music may sound way different than you're used to from other headphones, but I heard layers of music in Dark Side of the Moon I'd never heard before.

Like many other production headphones, almost every part can be replaced by a somewhat handy user, so these can be buy it for life.
