ANC is ok, drowns out airplane noise adequately. Build quality and sound blow Bose out of the water.

I bought the first generation of these around 5 years ago. They've held up well and are still my daily headset at work. I think Bluetooth may have stopped working but I don't use it. I have the around ear version which I'd recommend. I find them to be pretty comfortable but that depends on ear size. The noise cancellation on airplanes is amazing. I don't think mine can be on while charging but they can still be used if 3.5mm headset jack is used. They may have fixed that. I bought for around $500. At $200 I'd buy again if the original died.

Does it support AAC? I've been reading mixed info over this.

Yeah, I thoroughly tested these a couple years ago against the Bose QC35s and the Sony MDR x1000, and overall I found the ANC to be a little worse than either Sony or Bose, and sound quality wise was comparable to the MDR x1000, both of which blew the QC35s out of the water for any music with any low end nuance.

But that was a few years ago when they were all I roughly the same price range, given that this is like half the price of the current gen MDR line I'd say this is a great deal.

How do these compare to something like the Sony XM3s? Been itching to pull the trigger on the XM3s for a while - missed the last sales in Nov, wondering how this compares.

I see you understand how the internet works and how many altering opinions come together for discussion. Golf clap.

I haven't heard the new sony ones, and they get great reviews. I did listen to Bose and wasn't overly impressed by the build quality or sound. However the noise cancelling was fantastic.

Of course, just one opinion.

Great price - this even beats Perkopolis pricing ($209.99).

one opinion shared by many. it's probably the consensus about Bose. great ANC but everything else is decent. for the premium asking price, may not be worth it but a 40% off? totally worth it. it all comes down to what you are looking for and what will be the use. if one wants great ANC, they may have to stay away from Sennheiser and go towards Bose or Sony. if they want good sound quality, they may go towards Sennheiser and Sony depending on what signature sound they like best

I would say these are worth it for $200, but I didn't actually find they sounded that great. Definitely not as good as my wired Sennheiser Momentum 2. When you turn on the active mode with ANC, they sound a bit loose. The new model Momentum 3 sounds a lot more even and neutral, and the ANC is better.

I'm still waiting on my Drop Pandas, they aren't ANC but could be a game changer,

Yup if I found a pair of Bose for 40 percent off I'd consider it for the plane just for the anc. Don't think you often find the latest Bose that cheap though.

I love that Sennheisers have multipoint support for easy switching between devices, something the Sony’s don’t. I had the first gen of these and loved them for that. Have since switched to the Bose QC35’s and find them much more comfortable for longer wearing periods.

I have these headphones and they sound great. The thing about wireless headphones is that they will never sound as good as the wired ones, but since these do come with a wire too, you can hook them up to your audio device; a phone or a pc and enjoy better sound.

Their battery life is amazing, it lasts almost 20 hours and I have had mine for over 4 years now. They look and feel premium quality headphones and dont look like most other headphones out there. I purchased them after trying out the competition and these just stood better.

If you want much higher active noise cancellation then Sony's would do better. They seemed comparable in sound quality as well but the sony's dont stand out in terms of their looks to me so I went with these. You cant go wrong with either option at this price. I paid $500 like most other people haha. But if you take care of them, these shall last you a while.

I have a pair as well, had them for years and they are still kicking. ANC, BT and overall sound is great. I love the materials and retro look. Sony and Bose ANC is better but at this clearance price you can’t complain. My only complaint is against the ear pads...

They are made from really soft leather and have cushion like memory foam but are a bit small. My ears aren’t small or huge but they don’t play nice with the ear pads. After an hour of wear it becomes very painful. Luckily some larger aftermarket ear pads saved the day. They do change the sound profile a bit but I can live with that and increased comfort.

SM2W - Sound
700 - ANC, voice quality, unmatched comfort (cheapest are refurbs if they come back at $349)

However, apples/oranges as newer version, SM3W vs SM2W

The Momentum 3 are a big upgrade from the 2s. They have a clearer sound quality, more comfortable, better noise cancelling (and one that you can turn off), more and better codec and Bluetooth 5.0 (the 2 has 4.0). The Momentum 3 also has transparency mode. The only thing to watch out for is the Momentum 3’s lackluster 17 hour battery, compared to 22 on 2.

yeah I agree that the SMW3 is a lot better than the 2. The 2 sounds warmer, darker. The 3 has nicer treble and voices are just more natural. The ANC is still a step down from the leaders, but it's not that far off now.

If the SMW3 comes down in price a bit to the discounted levels of the Sony and Bose, then I would recommend it, but I can't get excited about paying $500 for it.

I still find the Bose headsets more comfortable. I have the Sennheiser wired, Sony WM3 and the Bose still takes the crown for just continuous use. The Bose sound quality is adequate and it doesn't offend in any way (not too bassy or tinny or fatiguing). Soundwise the SMW3 takes the crown over the Sony or Bose

These were $156 during Christmas but nobody seemed to be interested.
