Is the a6000 really this much still.... holy shit...

The kit has been on sale in the past for less than $500cdn.

I got an A6300 with the kit lens and a Sigma 30mm f1.4 for $900 on Craigslist in Vancouver 2 months ago... This doesn't seem like a great deal to me at all

Seems like a good deal, the regular price for the 18-105mm F4 G lens is 750.

I bought one second hand last year for $300. Still a good camera but I don't think I'd pay full price for a new one today with so many other options out there.

I love this series of cameras, but ultimately find on vacations, we just use the phones now. My wife has a oneplus 6 and I carry my older Sony Nex 3N sometimes, and I think her phone probably does a better job most of the time. Probably my bad camera skills too though :(

I know the 3N is a bit older, but unsure if sometihng like this would be a huge upgrade. I have 2 sonly SLR's collecting dust, because I just find them way to big/heavy for vacations.

If you have a sel18200 (original silver version), you may love your 3N or A6000 a lot more. SELP18105G is fine, I had it but don't like the mechanical zoom and geo distortion (lose 2mm on wide due to that).

It is certainly true that most phones can take as good a picture or better a picture when the pictures are only viewed on the phone or for Web purposes. However, most phone would not be able to give you as good a resolution when printing a large picture, control the depth of field or long/multiple exposures. So, for me, when I go to the trouble to take the camera/lens to travel, I try to take full advantage of these aspects which sometimes may require the special lens or lights combinations.

So, if one were to go the extra trouble to carry the camera/lens, one may want to investigate whether it can be achieved by using cell phone. If the answer is yes, you don't need the camera/lens. If the answer is no, you know exactly what equipments and what pictures you are after. If the answer is I don't know, then you may need to take a course on photography and learn about taking photos or one can try by experimenting using different options.

It's overpriced for a 5 year old camera. There have been 3 more models since this came out, it should have been put on clearance a while ago.

It's similar to other things that people get interested in.

Cars: if it gets me from A>Z then it's accomplished it's job. Yeah there are more power cars (in the most simplistic sense), they still get me from A>B, but the experience is different and the type of driving and roads I drive on will make a difference. Do I want to pay for it? That's ultimately a subjective call.
Also, if I never drive a luxury automobile, then I will never know the difference anyway (on a regular basis).

So yes, cellphones definitely take awesome photos. But things like what we do with an image after, special lights and shooting conditions, etc... but if you never want to then stick with a cellphone. But as a hobby, I definitely use my gear.

I have the kit lens, and then I believe the 55-210 silver lense. light and decent enough I guess, but the range never seems to work out. The 18-55 is too short, and the 55-210 is too long. I have a sigma 18-250 for my alpha, but i'd need the adapter. That sel18200 is def way more expensive.

Im no pro photographer, so I guess I want more portability vs quality. I debated an RX or maybe HX99 or similar. But then again, for quick snaps and small prints, the cameras in new phones are surprisingly good.

the models are all different and offer different classes and higher price points.

the 6000 still packs a punch for what it offers. It offers single Eye AF, burst mode, OLED, tilt screen small size and the ability to use the line up of E mount lenses. I had the chance to strap it onto the SEL400 lens with teleconverter.
Nikon and Canon Eye AF is single as well on the R and Z and they just launched recently.

Could probably drop in price. But the competition, like Canon M is cheaper, but they use a different mount than their new R mount. If you just use the existing lenses then fine, but if you want to grow, then I seriously doubt where Canon is going with APSC models.

The fake bokeh from phones are no where near DSLR quality in my opinion. The a6000 paired with the Sigma 16mm f1.4 or 30mm f1.4 produce pictures that a phone simply cannot.

Unfortunately at this price point I wouldn’t consider this deal hot. The a6000 with kit lens have gone for $500 and under during past sales.

Sony should freaking stop making those. instead they release a new model and push the price higher...

of course, for a6000, it was cheaper in CAD because of the much strong CAD when it first came out.
