[Amazon.ca] Sony TV 55" X900F (2018) (XBR55X900F) 1279$

Hi!

I'm still hoping for a drop price on XBR49X900F but I noticed a price drop on the XBR55X900F on Amazon today.

No idea how long it will last.

I know that's not as good as last month Costco promo (1300$ + 150$GC) but for those that don't want to wait, it might be low enough.

One "trick" that seems to work for extended warranty:
Say a TV is $1000 and the warranty is $200 so $1200 total.
Tell the salesperson you're willing to spend $100 for the extended warranty but no more.
If there is enough markup the salesperson will decrease the price of the TV by $100 and still charge you $200 for the warranty (because they have to charge a certain amount for warranty).
So you're paying $900 for the TV and $200 for the warranty but $1100 altogether which is what you wanted ($1000 for TV and $100 for warranty).
Salespeople will do this because they make more commission off of warranty and their add on percentage for warranties is tracked.
Of course this doesn't work if the price of the TV is already as low as it goes like near or at cost. And works better at stores where salespeople have the ability to negotiate/edit prices at will.

Yup, at bestbuy we were allowed to give a discount on the warranty as long as the discount isn't more than the profit on the product. That's how they get ya.
Give u the price of 1 year for 2 years warranty

Phenomenal TV. Picked it up from costco online when they were doing that gift card deal.

Was certainly tempted by the OLEDs but the peak brightness wasn’t good enough for our room.

I bought this from Costco for $1198 a couple months back and had to exchange it because there was a dark vertical bar on the left side on certain grey screens. The replacement had the same issue. I almost returned it for a 6 series TCL but a girl was selling a 65" x900f on FB for $800 that was a month old. I snatched that up so fast. And no vertical bar on this one!! It's such a nice tv. My bf wanted to get the lg OLED but I was scared about burn in so convinced him to go for the x900f instead

Meaning that you can get a more reliable vehicle that does all the same things almost as well as long as you don't need all the fancy, but useless, farkles for a fraction of the cost?

I bought the P55 and had to return it.

- CEC issues : could be any TV as I understand
- Freaking slow UI.
- Blooming : could be the same with Sony anyway.
- High reflection of the screen, and I have a bright room.

I loved the design and screen. But the reflection was a dealbreaker for me. (plus for me, 55in in was anyway a little too big).

My opinion? Buy the P55, if you like it, you keep it, if you don't, you return it.
We are lucky to be able to buy and return product easily. If you are really interested in buying the P55, I'd say that a good use of the return policy.

For those who want a 55" it may be better to wait until the X950G comes down in price - apparently it fixes the few problems with the X900F i.e. slow UI, ARC problems, poor speakers

- X950G have a much faster hardware. Geekbench show 2x better performance. There's also a new remote.
- X900G's benchmark is comparable to Mi Box 3 (which I have). It's not as fast as a nVidia Shield but it's pretty decent. But for sure, forget about 3D games (but who buy a TV for it's 3D game capability?).
- I wouldn't hold my breath for integrated speakers in tv nowadays. Rtings still recommend soundbar for this tv.

That's really weird how these deal happens.
Two days ago, the XBR49 was 100$ off on Costco.ca and yesterday it was ended.
I wonder how they choose to update their prices.
