Most of these things slow down your car and just make a bunch of intake noise, especially if you don't bother tuning the ECU or have a flow bottleneck elsewhere. Basically paying $200 to make noise and suck more dirt into your engine. It's very common for used oil analysis to show heightened levels of dirt in the oil using one of these pod filter intakes.

Your stock intake very likely already is "overkill" for how much air the engine can take, and most are already cold intakes taking air from the bottom.

And don't forget the heat-soak effect that will also reduce power, because these things suck hot engine bay air into the intake, whereas your stock intake will take cooler air in from the outside of the car.

I turn one of these on a G35 once. Did it sound cool? Yup. Did it make the car make more power? Nope... it was measurably slower.

Fully agree with no power benefit in most stock applications, most modern cars require ECU reflash to take advantage of any intake and exhaust changes, and really require a combination of all three. Also agree that most of these suck hot engine compartment air, and many have poor filter elements that pass a lot more dirt into you engine. And don't forget that improper re-oiling of the oiled filters can cause MAF issues.

That said, on many cars they DO sound nice - I currently have one in my NB Miata. Astonished Face

I'm not familiar with this cheaper one but like most it looks designed to block the filter off from the engine bay and use the stock cold air path. It should seal against the inner fender and hood. I prefer that type as it resonates against the hood for the kind of sound I like. Much better than some stupid loud raspy exhaust.
And for 5th generation camaro an intake/header/tune will get a decent gain for the price.

Are we 19 again? Why isn't this red or is that only available from AEM?

Thanks to GT7, I can separate car parts from PC parts now. I will let other idiots ask if this will fry their 'RTX 3090 Ti' BFG3000 FTW edition.

I always find it funny when people install these on their G37 with two stock air boxes already. Does sound nice though.
