For those looking for a cheaper alternative and larger capacity there is this one from living basics:

https://www.living.ca/p-366151-cool-mis ... vingbasics

Works fine for me. Had it in November on sale for $27. It is also similar to this TaoTronics:

But less than half the price.
I ordered 2 of these for 29.99 each. nice find. reviews and features seem to be good!

Started using this for a couple days now. Run it overnight for about 7-8hrs and when I wake up I feel pretty congested. What em I doing wrong?

I have the humidity set to 45%

Used regular tap water and will try fridge filtered water and see it changes.
the instructions clearly said to not use tap water, maybe try filtered water, I am using Brita water.

Is the buzzing fan noise that this humidifier typical of cool mist humidifiers? Are there other quieter options for night time sleep of the same performance or is the noise expected ?

I don't own the OP one, but I can tell you the one I do have is so quiet I literally can't hear it.

I recently returned my Taotronics due to outputting too much white dust for my liking, ordered an evaporative model instead.
Not an issue if you use distilled water, but costs and hassle made me switch.

"hardness" (mineral content) of water supply varies. GTA water that comes from Lake Ontario doesn't seem to generate much dust. Well water that I've experienced (Vaughan, Waterloo) has been quite hard, but really depends on the aquifer (which can be quite local).
