[Amazon.ca] Transcend JetDrive Lite 128GB Storage Expansion Card Macbook Air $86.90

This is the lowest I have seen for this product. Though seller is not Amazon.Ca but its fulfilled by Amazon CA. Amazon is selling this for a toonie more.. :)

Also available from the Amazon CA warehouse - http://www.amazon.ca/gp/offer-listing/B ... ition=used for $80.82

This is a sweet little device that bumps up the storage on your Mackbook Air by 128GB. Transcend's JetDrive Lite 130 Expansion Card gives you the chance to instantly boost the total available capacity of your MacBook Air system without the need to upgrade to a larger capacity SSD.

I've had the retina macbook pro version of the 128GB card for about a year now in my rMBP. It's great! Works just like an internal hard drive. Never any issues. Highly recommended.

I have it on my Macbook Pro and I get great battery life so it appears that it sips battery juice. I have it in always.

BTW, OWC will have SSD upgrades in early 2016 for mid 2014 and later rMBP.

I had no idea this product existed and I'm very happy I stumbled on this thread. My MBA constantly runs out of storage - thanks OP!

Yeah since this is just a memory card, you shouldn't notice any tangible difference in battery life.

NB
I have one and rarely use it as it prevents the MacBook from going into deep sleep so it drains the battery if you have it in sleep for a few days. It does that even when using their app. I haven't been able to find a solution for this.

I'm currently using a regular size sd card and it drains the battery, ordered this hoping it's better.

$2.57 Can including shipping. I ordered one a few weeks ago but haven't received it yet. Be sure to check that it's compatible with your particular model.
I am already using one of these smaller SDcard adaptors and they seems to work fine for storage (but some applications still requires to be installed on main HDD). I'm curious if the Transcend Jetdrive offers any benefits compared to just a regular microSD card. Like, does it read it as an internal drive or is it simply read it as a removable storage?

Curious about this too?

Is there a big benefit to the JetDrive? How's reliability if I put important pictures on it? What about compared to SD card adapters?

What happens if you want to use the SD slot to import pictures (for example). Does the system deal with the Jetdrive removed?

I ordered this and it didn't work with my 32gb card. Not sure if it's just a bad one that I got.

For anyone asking, these are basically just SD cards so they show up as as a removeable drive. The speeds on these are not bad, but are probably best for storage.

That thing claims to fit Macbook Air and Pro, but it can't since the slots don't have the same depth.

I've used this one with a 64 GB card on an Air and it worked very well:

There's also a more expensive aluminum version, not worth it IMHO since this one is barely visible (it doesn't stick out at all on an Air.)

Much faster speeds than general SD cards (but not as fast as an SSD), that and it doesn't stick out like a normal card. It would be like a Sandisk Extreme pro class type SD Card, but without it hanging off the side.
