I'm in the market for an air purifier, but the lack of independent professional reviews for this unit (or company) makes me very hesitant to pull the trigger.

Basically how well it sucks air through the filters. That's why weight ( bigger motors are heavier) and power consumption are important.

I don't know much about air purifiers but I was in the same boat last year and picked up two Levoit Vista 200 air purifiers. They scribed the wildfire smoke from the air and have me some much needed relief during the summer months. Just bought some replacement filters for this year. I don't think they sell the Vista 200 anymore but they have the newest model Vista 300 available. More expensive than this unit though.

My mistake, they do have the Vista 200 still. It's regular price is the same as the sale price from last year. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07PRTL8XR/ref ... AFYG3DD4NP

Honestly though, this OP air purifier looks fine. As long as it has a true HEPA filter you can't really go wrong.

If not getting brand name, at least get the best China brands. Big issue is supply and availability of filters, yes that's how they make their money but what good is the unit if you can't get replacement filters. The filters are 90% of the function, the unit is just a fan motor with fancy controls and sensors.

Levoit, Coway, and many others are highly reviewed.

"can purify a 258Sqft room in 15 Minutes, circulating the air in the room up to 5x per hour! "

When did an hour start having 75 minutes? Also the pictures are very misleading - it is only 41cm high so those dogs are tiny. Misleading pictures likely means misleading performance figures as well.

I'll stick with my BlueAir Classic 405.

Have an old Sharp air purifier just sitting there as the replacement filters were/are so expensive. Are air purifiers the same as inkjet printers in terms of bending you over for replacements of the consumable parts?

Not seeing that price even with the coupon. Just more cheap China made garbage to send to the landfill.

Ensure its certified UL/ETL/intertek for household use

Ensure filters are available and priced well

Ensure fan box has speeds/modes you like (ion, carbon, nighttime no light, auto, multi-speed fan, auto power on from power fail, remote, wifi, etc)

Buy it.

CBC did an marketplace study review, it's likely on gem or youtube. Basically a boxfan from princess auto with a filter ziptied fast work A-OK in filtering the air... there's really no tricks with these. Just fan + filters. Buy what works for you, what filters you can buy to replace as that's the expense. If that's a bag of ties and a 16" desk fan to diy - so be it.

an air purifier is a pretty simple thing. if it has a fan and a good filter, then it will work.
If you're looking to use it in a bedroom, i see nothing wrong with this item at all.
it has 4 modes and the high mode draws 40w which is fairly low energy usage, and a middle mode would prob be quiet enough to use 24/7 in your room.
replacement filters are like $40, but all air purifiers are expensive to replace filters for.
personally i only see the need to put a new filter in at the start of the allergy season and it would still be fresh throughout forest fire season, so once a year.

If anyone wants a whole home purifier that goes on the return side of the furnace I just got rid of mine to make more space in my utility room and would let it go quite cheap (sorry to be off topic) (GTA)

This is true but I would add noise as a very important buying criteria. A lot of people have these in bedrooms and the boxfan, whilst regarding functionality is a great cheap option, sounds like a propeller engine even at the lowest speed.

Absolutely. Fast air movement (60-150W) will also destroy a filter quicker compared to slow constant 10-40W giant fan airflow. Take a fan add a variable speed controller and suddenly you're starting to exceed price of dedicated air filter models while really bringing home a diy feel. Meanwhile if the goal is a litterbox or grow tent and you got a spare fan but little money you just need a filter and it'll work pretty good

Most of the of the advice here is wrong.

It's either TESTED and it works or its just a box that makes noise, heat and increases your electric bill.

Watch the CBC Marketplace video and build an air filter for 50 bucks and works 4x better than an $800 Dyson. If style over function is important then there is a $170 Sunbeam (IIRC) that was actually able to do anything. Again, much better than the Dyson.
