[Amazon.ca] USB C to USB C 60W 3A Cables(6.6ft+6.6ft+1ft) - $8

3 USB C to USB C 60W 3A Cables(6.6ft+6.6ft+1ft), mainly for charging, not data transfer since these only support up to 480Mbps (~60 MB/s). To be honest I'm not sure how good these cables are gonna be, but $8 for 3 cables doesn't seem too bad and since it's fulfilled by Amazon returns are easy.

1. Mobile phone cases with a thickness of more than 2.5mm are not supported.
2. Does not support video output
3. Charging speed depends on the device and wall charger. We recommend using the original power adapter for charging for best performance.
4. Maximum output: 20V 3A 60W Data transmission: USB 2.0, 40-60MB/S (480Mbps)
5. This is a USB-C to USB-C fast charging cable, not a USB-C to USB-A cable, it has the same USB-C plug at both ends.
6. Up to 60W of [email protected]

True !

Most USB-C (or iPhone Lightning) cables should contain a chip in order to be certified by Apple/Samsung.
That's why the cable would be at a higher cost.
I actually had bought some 10/20 Gbit USB-C cables back in 2020 for around C$20 to C$25 a piece.

As long as you know what you are getting, that's fine.
And also make sure you don't hot plug these charging cable to your cell phone (or device) when the power adapter was turned on !

If you look at some of the review photos, you can see those usb-c connector was burnt out (due to sparks), this is most likely because of hot plugging the cable to your device while the power adapter was powered on !

Ok but can you explain what "hot plugging the cable to your device while the power adapter was powered on" means

The normal procedure of powering up any electronic device is to connect all the cabling first before turning on the power source.
If you, instead, turning on the power source first and then plugging in your device or cabling, this is known as 'hot plugging'.
For those devices that were not originally designed for 'hot plugging', it may cause damages to your device (and/or cabling) because of the instantaneous high electric current during sudden electrical contact.

I wouldn’t expect these USB C cables to have an e-Marker Chip for 2.66$

Lighting cables requires a chip from Apple to make it MFI certified. If you see cables less than 5$, they are most likely not certified cables and will fail in short notice.

Bottom line, you get what you pay for.

What do you mean while the power adapter was on?? You mean how basically everyone plugs in there phone? Do you take your adapter out every time you're done charging?? Face With Tears Of Joy

Lol I remember when this was an issue even with branded USB-C to C cables back in 2015/2016.

Having a Google Nexus device back then with the then-new USB-C to C cables was an interesting (and frustrating) time.

Kinda intriguing to me how only now in 2021/2022 has the general public become more aware and comfortable with USB-C to C.

No human has ever plugged in their phone in that order. Every human ever has always "hot plugged."

The Benson approved days are long gone

I don’t think the issue was with USB C to USB C but rather USB C to USB A. USB A spec is 5 Volts with a max of 2.4 amps (that’s pushing it) giving you a max of 12 Watts. USB C was 15 Watts (5V, 3A) or 18 Watts (9V, 2A). Those values have only increased as we can go as high as 100 Watts

A lot has changed. We now have

USB C - IF Certification
USB C - PD (Power Delivery)
e-Marker Chips
USB C - PPS (Programmable Power Supply)

None of these things will stop the plague of cheap cables.

Just got my cables, package/seal was already cut open, only got the two 6ft cables. Was really disappointed so I contacted amazon, after a bit of talking got them to refund me the total price and said I could just keep the item, they also gave me a $5 amazon promo credit lol. So I pretty much got 2 free cables and $5.
