[Amazon.ca] Viofo A119 V3 DashCam - $135.95 (warm)

I have this dashcam and got it at a slightly better deal not that long ago but this deal is pretty close. I am guessing that they're phasing out this model so expect the prices to continue to fall.

FWIW, it's a pretty decent dashcam.

If you're wondering about image quality, daytime is great and night shots are okay at best (certainly not good enough to read plates). Here's a screenshot from my dashcam taken just the other day:

I have one and can't recommend it. Good quality video, but mine crapped out on me after about 1.5 years of use - won't record to the memory card anymore. For a $135 dash cam, I would expect it to last a bit longer.

Did you try swapping out the memory card? They only last so long when in a dashcam, especially if not something durable

Yeah, you should be using high endurance micro SD cards for dashcams. Otherwise 1.5 years is about right to burn through an SD card. your dashcam might still be fine.

Yes, I swapped multiple times. It's the dashcam unit.

1.5 years is really not great, my oldest dashcam is the $35 G1W-C from Aliexpress and that has been running at least since 2014 (although only roughly 1400 hours of recording, given the long-term average speed and the mileage done in that time)..

+1. Have had a g1w-c and a g1w-cb running for probably 4 years now each, doing great

What's the best dashcam under $300?
I aim to be inclusive and considerate of others in my posts. If I fall short of that mark, feel free to let me know in good faith, and where appropriate, I'll edit my posts. Thank you.

I agree. That being said, I won't get too upset if it craps out early as I will likely be interested in an upgrade in a couple of years.

Do you park outside during the day?

Yeah, Viofo offers wifi on the A129 which is also 4k and is available as a two channel unit. But the A129 is another $60. I personally see the A119v3 as an entry model and, as my first dashcam, has been a good introduction for me into the world of dashcams.

My v2 died 2 years later. It wouldn’t turn on sometimes and I have to manually turn it on or reconnect the cable.

My v3 did the same on day 1. I’m using a 7mai pro plus from AliExpress now.

For those wondering, the A119V3 performs noticeably better at night than V2.

Just a heads up... Viofo has a new firmware for this V3 (the different versions of 2.0, starting from I think September, and also the most recent one being November) that has issues with the 60fps setting if you choose that setting combined with HDR. They added HDR (seemed to replace WDR) setting starting with the September firmware and it doesn't play well with 60fps, but on 30fps from what I've read it's fine.

How's the low light quality at night time in comparison to the v2?

V3 is better in low light than the v2. Not by much, but it’s noticeable.

Here's a screenshot from early evening in January but at a reasonably well-lit intersection:

Is the 7mai pro plus better than the v3? Just looked it up on AE, packed with lots of features.
