Amazon.ca Warehouse deals.

Sennheiser HD 4.50 Special Edition : seems to be a made-for-Amazon version in matte black and frustration-free packaging, otherwise exactly the same as the regular HD 4.50.

They seem to have over 30+ in stock at $33.38 in acceptable condition, a bunch more in good/very good condition at $37-$38.

Currently 85 in stock in all.

I've had mostly good luck with Warehouse deals. But that's not the case for everyone. 30 days returns.

What is battery life for warehouse items like this generally like? Can I assume it’s a used and abused item or like a refurb?

A "very good" condition one probably didn't spend a lot of time in the hands of another customer so they should be all good. I've owned a pair of HD1s for 3 years and been using them daily without much battery degradation so those "almost new" items should be more then fine.

Some descriptions seem vague, with other more detailed. I have no need for more headphones. But if I did, I would try this.

"Item has major cosmetic damages but is still usable. Large cosmetic imperfection(s) on top, front or sides of item. Large cosmetic imperfection(s) on bottom or back of the item. Item will come in original packaging. Packaging will be damaged."

I owned these and returned them after a month. They were not comfortable and the sound was mediocre for the $150 I paid. For $40 in 'like new' condition, this is very hot.
