WTF?! This is great education on my part so thank you @cooper83 for the link and @Elusive for the heads up. But damn... what other foods do I not know about that might be laced with toxic/poisonous stuff?

CR article likely US based, so wonder about all the PC bars I've got and have been using in my baking.

Faaaaaaack.

Wait until we find out what we eat in meat and produce feeding from the toxic waterways leading from the catastrophic train derailment into Ohio river last week.

You might find some answers here:
what crops are grown using the water from the Ohio River Watershed?

Yes, the brand was apart of the study. It's quite unfortunate, as I found these bars to be one of the best tasting.

"To determine the risk posed by the chocolates in CR’s test, we used California's maximum allowable dose level..."
"CR’s scientists believe that California’s levels are the most protective available."
"The researchers found that cacao plants take up cadmium from the soil, with the metal accumulating in cacao beans as the tree grows. That’s similar to how heavy metals contaminate some other foods."
"But lead seems to get into cacao after beans are harvested."

So, pretty much all chocolate is affected by this. And California Proposition 65 is just crazy. Under it, pretty much everything has to be labeled "known to the state to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm".

So agree with this last bit. Nearly *eveything* is labelled this way, rendering the warning kind of pointless -- there's no way of differentiating what's legitimately dangerous and what's just overkill. You'd have to go off the grid and farm your own food to avoid.

Disneyland has this warning posted at the entrance. Nothing kills the vibe of The Happiest Place on Earth™ than a disclaimer saying "Oh, and you're gonna get cancer, kid"

It's lost all its meaning and did so pretty much immediately upon its introduction.

I swear RFD got some of the most educated shoppers in the world. I learn new stuff all the time from RFDers.

But yeah agree about the moderation tip. That’s basically the general life tip.

Gotta figure out now what I eat or do in excess that falls outside of “moderation” so I don’t die too early.

Yeah I used to travel to Cali 3-4 times a year before for work and first time I got there, like every place I stepped into had that prop 65 warning. It was mainly the hotels that caught my eye, as I never heard of Prop 65 until visiting Cali. If you’ve ever been to Cali and got to know the vibe there, you’ll know why it suits that state. It’s such a California thing.

But yeah, bc that warning is on literally everything there, it’s lost all meaning as everyone has mentioned.
