Soon, 500GB will be given away for free I think, which understandable. It is very limited what you can do with 500GB nowadays. Even 1GB for nvme is kinda mehh. Since you are limited by the slot number you have on your board. New 1GB is 2GB, you can see from the prices too.

TB, my guy. And hard drives aren't only installed on motherboards. They can be used in enclosures, docks, NAS, gaming systems, video recorders etc.

Man, with these cheap prices Xbox's move to have those insanely expensive Seagate expansion cards looks worse everyday. It was already robbing consumers at launch but now it should be illegal.

Enclosures are going to be more expensive than the 500GB drive soon, so no. And min game is like 50-100GB, again no.

Now if only good enclosures are cheap. With limited M.2 slots, probably not a good idea to get a small drive.

I wonder if this enough for a synology nas as a cache drive.

Where do I join the line? Or sign me up :) Everybody's needs are different. I needed a fast SSD but 500 GB is more than enough for my purpose, so I don't need to pay twice for 1 TB. But free would have been better ;)

So there is a huge, HUGE surplus of NAND chips (the type used for SSDs). There was a supply deficit during COVID, now the market's more than met its needs, some of which were brought forward and now there are too many chips. The chip manufacturers have been slashing investment in facilities. This market experiences a rapid up/down cycle and right now we're in the early to mid stage of a down cycle. Expect quite depressed prices for the next year, I wouldn't be surprised to see drives drop another 20-30%.

Enclosures are not substitutes to SSDs. They are used together. People have different storage needs.

Games used for the PS4 and Xbox One and earlier generations tend to be much smaller than 50-100GB. The SN770 falls under the PS5 recs and does not work with the Xbox Series expansion slot. So people gaming on consoles will be running legacy games.

Good deal.

If you're looking for a boot drive on a modern system, and don't require significant storage, this is a good solution.

Thank you, OP.

Bought it for 65 two years ago. It's been working great Its got DRAM that good enough for as a bootdrive. WD warranty is awesome as well.

SN770 has no cache (DRAM less). SN750 & SN850 have DRAM.

I guess Apple never got the memo.

256GB SSD storage

512GB SSD storage
+ $250.00

1TB SSD storage
+ $475.00

2TB SSD storage
+ $925.00
