WD_Black SN750 500GB NVMe Internal Gaming SSD - Gen3 PCIe, M.2 2280, 3D NAND - WDS500G3X0C

On sale for $70 from Amazon. Please note, this is currently not in stock until Sept. 25. I ordered this in advance and in between now and delivery I will keep an eye out for a better deal.

fyi, I have just been informed that this price is fairly common.

I could be wrong, but I thought it only applied to the SN550.

Good price, not as good a price if these are QLC + Nerfed Controller under the guise of a good SSD.

This is the tech world equivalent of 'build back better'.

I'm praying for a class action.

I'm still looking for any kind of reference to the SN750 having QLC. It's confirmed for the sn550 series, but google is failing me when I search for sn750 + qlc.

I hope I'm wrong. This isn't great news if true.

I think I read it on BAPC.

Yeah, until there's some kind of verified account, I'm sticking with it only being the SN550 getting QLC. It's not completely unfathomable, but swapping TLC for QLC in their PCIe 3 enthusiast drive would be a huge deal that would stick a fork into any chance they'd ever have of recovering their name.

I'm still waiting to see if anybody in Canada has received a QLC SN550 let alone a 750. From the sounds of it, folks are still getting the old firmware which makes me wonder if the QLC drives might be part of a different regional supply chain.

@redflagdealsguy don't recall i read about SN750 being QLC, i highly doubt WD would do that, it would be suicide move. i did come across this a week or so ago but no conclusion: https://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoarder/co ... ives_have/

at this price, we would still buy SN750 over Sammy 980. btw did SN750 500GB drop to $65 recently? i had more drives than i needed so didn't buy any

I've decided I'll roll the dice.

I've ordered.

This is only $10 more than the Samsung 980 and it's significantly better if it sticks to stock parts.

Think the WD bait and switch around the SN750 to watch for is an SE at the end. SN750 SE is a new lower quality performance switch of the SN750.
Buying WD products feels greasy.

It's really too bad.

Samsung is coming out of this looking a little better, despite their terrible Canada warranty.

Bait and switch NVME part numbers posted to reddit.

Samsung 970 EVO Plus
Older version - part number: MZVLB1T0HBLR.
Newer version - part number: MZVL21T0HBLU.
You won't be able to find the part number on the box, you have to look at the actual drive.
Older version is significantly better for sustained write speeds, newer version may be fine for those who don't need to write more than 100+ GB at a time.
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/08 ... plus-ssds/

Western Digital Black SN750
Older model number: WDS100T3X0C
Newer model number: WDBRPG0010BNC-WRSN.
The first part of the name will change based on the size of drive but if it contains "3X0C" that indicates if you have the older model or not.
There are reports of the older model number WDS100T3X0C-00SJG0 producing slower speeds as well.

Western Digital Blue SN550
NAND flash part number on old version: 60523 1T00
NAND flash part number on new version: 002031 1T00

Crucial P2
Switched from TLC to QLC
"The only differentiator is that the new QLC variant has UK/CA printed on the packaging near the model number, and the new firmware revision. There are also two fewer NAND flash packages on our new sample, but that is well hidden under the drive’s label."
https://www.tomshardware.com/features/c ... -downgrade

Adata XPG SX8200 Pro
Oldest fastest model - Controller: SM2262ENG
Version 2 slower - Controller: SM2262G, Flash: Micron 96L
Version 3 slowest - Controller: SM2262G, Flash: Samsung 64L

Few more versions as well:

@launch, mensch.

Good resource.

The SN750 may not be horribly nerfed, old or new parts. I'm surprised to see Samsung on that list though.

Industry-wide partial nerfing, plus or minus. ADATA is the worst in this area, as is tradition.
