I just purchased these last week at the higher price.

Amazon has a limit of 2. Not sure what anyone is going to do with two drives. You need a minimum of 3 for a decent RAID

Good find. Same price at Canada Computers with no buying limit

You would do the same thing with one ... but twice as much.

What’s the point in having half the total capacity? With three drives, you pay 50% more, but you get double the capacity and benefits of stripping (speed)

Is this fine to get this drive for general use like storing storage (videos, documents, pictures) in a regular PC?

When it comes to raid 1, a lot of time, it's due to lack of physical space in the chassis/enclosure. Some people didn't think that far ahead on the subject of raiding when they initially got their enclosure or computer case while building a PC.

Also, it could be a matter of cost in the case of large business, the only function is to backing up data and do not need it for speed, why pay for the extra drive to raid 5 especially when you are to to deploy thousands of machines. If you can cut cost on the 1 drive per machine, that's quite a bit of saving you can use elsewhere.

Been using WD reds in my PC for years. Mainly for movies/torrents. No issues in like a decade.

I had one of my 4 drives in RAID 5 slowly start failing recently (QNAP NAS). I had a spare 6TB hard drive so I just swapped it, and everything rebuilt oner a few hours. So even with a limit of 2, it's useful for those looking to get a spare HD or two.
